Exhibits promote student work & the importance of art in schools

Local student artwork is blooming around Addison County this week. Check out works by Mount Abe juniors and seniors at the downtown Bristol gallery, Art on Main, beginning May 17 with an opening reception from 3:30-5 p.m. Then check out student and professional work from North Branch School at Tourterelle during their Spring Art Exhibit and Auction on Sunday, May 19, from 3:30-5 p.m.

‏The music of Green Heron stretches across the entire folk landscape. Old-time, folk, bluegrass, country, Celtic and blues music are all represented as the band brings the back porch to the stage.

As warmer weather approaches, it is a great time to consider how you use the outdoor spaces in your life. Whether you rent or own, use public land or private, there are things that you can think about to help make these outdoor spaces work better for you.

“My abstract art has always borne an uncanny relationship to photographic images coming to us from outer space,” says Fran Bull.

An opening reception will be held on Saturday, May 18, from 4-6 p.m., with an artist talk at 5 p.m. Refreshments will be served. The exhibit will be on view May 12-June 29.

Classics from the silent film era return to the big screen this May at the Brandon Town Hall and Community Center, which will host another season of vintage cinema with live music.

The final concert in the Five Town Friends of the Arts “Winter Into Spring Musical Library Tour” will be Rodrigo Placencia. He will perform on Thursday, May 16, at the Starksboro Library.

The event on Saturday, May 18, at 7:30 p.m., will be performed by a talented group of BARN OPERA/OVT favorites and newcomers, at the BARN OPERA House on Pearl Street in Brandon.
