Francis H. (Buzz) Burroughs
WINOOSKI — Francis H. (Buzz) Burroughs, 78, died in the home of his son, Frank, in Winooski on Oct. 10, 2007, after a struggling for over a year with cancer. He was born on Sept. 28, 1929, in Burlington, the son of Phelps and Editha (Harris) Burroughs.
He spent his childhood years growing up on the farm in Ferrisburgh and his teenage years working at the Basin Harbor Club. He graduated from Vergennes High School and attended the University of Vermont. He served in the U.S. Air Force through the Korean and Vietnam wars and retired with honors in 1989 from the Air Force Reserve after flying with the Air National Guard. After retiring, he was self-employed as an electrician for several years and then took ten years to travel to Florida, Oregon and California to pursue his interest in philosophy.
He is survived by his six children, Patricia Bergeron and husband Michael of Essex, Robert Burroughs of Louisiana, Frank Burroughs and wife Donna of Winooski, John Burroughs and partner Diane of Essex, Joseph Burroughs of Louisiana, and Solon Burroughs of Colchester; his companion, Elizabeth Woodrow; his sisters, Dorie Panton of Ferrisburgh and Julie Burroughs of Waltham; his brother, Robert Burroughs and wife Sylvia of Braintree; his sister, Virginia Clarke and husband Charles of New York; his brother Allen Burroughs of Louisiana; and Vera Burroughs, the mother of his children; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a son, James Burroughs, who died in 1954 at the age of 10 months.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27, at 1 p.m. at the Gage Cemetery in Vergennes.
