Vergennes Police Log: Man reports being followed by girlfriend

VERGENNES — On July 22, Vergennes police responded to a report from a man saying that a female was following him down Main Street, and he was unable to distance himself from her. The man claimed that the woman was under the influence of alcohol and marijuana.

When officers arrived on the scene, they discovered that the woman in question was the caller’s girlfriend. After discussion, the individual became uncooperative, and officers believed him to be intoxicated.

Police took him into custody and determined his BAC to be .160. His girlfriend’s BAC was 0. The individual was handed over to ACT 1 where he spent the night.

In other incidents between July 16 and 22, Vergennes police:

•  On July 16 investigated a motor vehicle complaint. Driver was said to be forcing cars off the road on Route 7. Officers contacted the driver and issued a ticket for unsafe passing.

•  On July 16 suspicious activity was reported near Otter Creek Falls. A witness said that a male with three children were pushing two tires and rims along the side of the river heading westbound. When police arrived at the scene, the suspects had left. Officers attempted to contact suspected individuals but were unable to reach them.

•  Issued a trespassing order to an East Street resident on July 16.

•  On July 16 received narcotic information in the Vergennes area.

•  A suspicious male was reported to be parked in a grey truck on Monkton Road on July 16. Police spoke to an employee of a nearby establishment who said that the man was pulling cigarettes from the trash and smoking them. Police contacted the operator whose license was under suspension. Tickets for no license and registration were issued, and the car was towed.

•  A relief from abuse order was issued to a male on Maple Manner on July 16. Christopher Crowningshield, 41, of Middlebury, was reported to have gone into a residence that he did not have permission to enter.

•  On July 16 recovered a blue nylon bag off of the roof of a car on Main Street.

•  On July 16 a citizen’s assist led police to a residence on King Street. A mother had called in concerned that her son and another individual were engaging in an unfair transaction. Police contacted the other involved individual who agreed to keep his distance.

•  Responded to a lockout at 149 Main Street on July 16.

•  Secured a residence on Panton Place on July 18. Nothing was found out of place.

•  On July 18 responded to a two-car motor vehicle accident on South Main Street. There was minor damage but no one was injured.

•  Received a report of narcotics activity on July 18 in the Vergennes area.

•  On July 19 responded to a citizen’s assist at a Main Street residence. The caller was concerned about the parents of her grandchildren. She was worried that the father may become abusive. The children were with the grandmother at the time.

•  On July 19 made a welfare check after a report that a female received a suicidal text message from her father. Crisis counselors were contacted, and the father was found to be fine.

•  Responded to a motor vehicle accident in the Shaw’s parking lot off of Monkton Road on July 19. No injuries were reported.

•  On July 19 investigated vandalism to the skate park and the bathroom area.

•  Performed a welfare check on July 19. A woman called in and said that she was worried her husband may hurt himself in the process of their divorce. Police contacted the man and he was determined to be fine.

•  Responded to a vehicle lockout at the Kinney’s off of Monkton Road on July 19.

•  On July 19 received information about drug activity in the Vergennes area.

•  Responded to a report of vandalism on July 20. A hose on a car appeared to be cut near South Maple Street.

•  Report of an animal problem was issued on July 20. A dog was said to be chasing a cat in the area. Police were unable to locate the dog’s owner.

•  On July 20 a male reported that he was unable to get a lawnmower deck and other personal belongings from someone who was fixing it. Police contacted the other party, and the items were returned.

•  On July 20 performed a welfare check on a man who had not been heard from in one year. He was found to be in Ferrisburgh.

•  On July 21 responded to a suspicious report of a man coming out of the Gevry Trailer park. The man said he was involved in an altercation with his wife and was out to “walk it off.”

•  On July 21 responded to a report of a hit and run. A motorcycle was struck on Park Street.

•  A lost debit card was found on Main Street on July 21.

•  On July 21 a citizen’s assist reported that one woman was harassed by another on Maple Street. A complaint was filed.

•  A noise complaint for barking dogs was issued on July 21 on Sunset Drive. Officers attempted to contact the dog’s owners but were unable to do so.

•  On July 22 a DUI was issued to Neil Marchesi, 25 in Ferrisburgh at the intersection between Old Hollow Road and Route 7. Officers found the driver sitting in his vehicle at the intersection with the engine running. Marchesi’s BAC level was .149. This was his second DUI charge.

•  Responded to an alarm on Green Street on July 22. It appeared to be accidental.

•  On July 22 responded to a lockout on First Street. The driver was able to gain entry into the vehicle.
