ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police were called to a one car rollover accident on Route 30 in Cornwall on Friday, Nov. 16, at around 10:13 p.m.

Upon their arrival, troopers found that the man they believed to be the driver of the 1995 Ford Mustang, 37-year-old Joshua Laraway of Bridport, had fled the scene. The passenger, 21-year-old Justin Stone of Middlebury, was transported to Porter Hospital with serious injuries. Police said he had injuries to his neck, head, back, and possibly internal; and his condition late Friday was called “guarded.”

At 3 a.m. on Saturday, Stone was transferred to Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington in “fair” condition. A spokeswoman on Tuesday said Stone had been discharged from the hospital.

Police report that the Mustang, with Laraway behind the wheel, left the west side of Route 30, collided with a culvert, and rolled over several times before coming to rest on its roof off the west side of Route 30. The vehicle was totaled.

Troopers and Middlebury police looked for Laraway that night. Trooper Hanley located Laraway at his home on Saturday night and issued him multiple citations. As of press time VSP could not say the exact offenses for which Laraway was cited.

Separately, troopers are investigating two burglaries reported off Route 125 in Bridport on Thursday afternoon, Nov. 15.

In one case, the culprit(s) forced open a rear door at the residence to get in and steal approximately $1,000 in jewelry. The thieves also initially broke a window in an unsuccessful attempt to get into the home. Damage to the door and window of the home is estimated at around $500.

A second home nearby was also burglarized on that same date, sometime between 6:30 a.m. and 12:20 p.m. The homeowners are currently taking inventory of what might have been stolen. Authorities did not say how the thieves got into this home, nor whether the two burglaries might be related.

Anyone with information about these burglaries should call state police at 388-4919, submit a tip online at www.vtips.info or text “CRIMES” (274637) to Keyword: VTIPS.
