VERGENNES — Vergennes police recently cited two city residents for supplying drugs and alcohol to a juvenile Vergennes resident following an investigation that began on Nov. 29, when the juvenile’s mother complained to police that he had come home under the influence of substances.

Police said their investigation led to a Dec. 3 citation to Carol Englehardt, 46, of Vergennes for allegedly delivering a drug to a minor. Police allege the drug in question was Klonopin, an anti-seizure medication, and that the juvenile had snorted it in powder form.

Earlier they cited David O’Connell, 21, of Vergennes for furnishing alcohol to the juvenile.

Police on Dec. 3 were also called because the juvenile was truant from Vergennes Union High School. On Dec. 4, police and VUHS officials cooperated with the Department of Children and Families in a Children In Need of Supervision (CHINS) intervention in which the juvenile was taken into DCF custody.

In other incidents between Dec. 3 and 9, Vergennes police:

•  On Dec. 3 issued seven tickets to cars parked in violation of the city’s overnight ban on on-street parking. The winter overnight parking ban began Dec. 1 and covers the hours between 2 and 6:30 a.m. Cars parked on the streets during those hours are subject to fines, towing or both, police said.

•  On Dec. 3 decided to talk to the Hillside Acres landlord after receiving a noise complaint from one of two tenants who regularly complain about each other.

•  On Dec. 3 heard from a Northlands Job Corps student who they recently cited for assault that she had been the victim of an earlier assault that Northlands personnel had not reported. Police are investigating.

•  On Dec. 3 were told that a cell phone had been lost at the City Limits nightclub.

•  On Dec. 3 picked up a man driving with a suspended license on behalf of Vermont State Police and delivered him to family members in New Haven; police said VSP cited the driver.

•  On Dec. 4 directed traffic for the funeral service of Rep. Greg Clark.

•  On Dec. 4 helped VSP investigate an accident on Botsford Road in Ferrisburgh.

•  On Dec. 4 arrested Michael S. Wedge, 29, of Cornwall and charged him with aggravated sexual assault on a child at a Vergennes business (see full story in this past Monday’s Addison Independent).

•  On Dec. 5 began looking into the theft of a package that had been delivered to a South Water Street home.

•  On Dec. 5 spoke at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Vergennes.

•  On Dec. 6 checked a Hillside Acres apartment for a possible break-in at the request of its resident, who said she had been ditched in Middlebury by acquaintances she was worried planned to rob her residence. Police found nothing wrong.

•  On Dec. 7 issued two tickets to cars parked in violation of the city’s overnight ban on street parking.

•  On Dec. 8 helped a motorist get into his locked car in the Shaw’s parking lot.

•  On Dec. 8 cited Lindsay Smith, 21, of New Haven and Chelsea Lowell, 27, of Ferrisburgh for disorderly conduct after an altercation at the City Limits nightclub. Police said the two women started arguing after two or three male companions started arguing, and alleged that the two pulled each other’s hair and that Smith punched Lowell during the incident.

•  On Dec. 8 arrested Northlands student Davon Miller, 18, of Astonia, Conn., for simple assault. Police allege Miller punched a fellow student in the eye who had protested about being hit in the head repeatedly during a dodgeball game and then after the game was hit with a floor mat. Miller was lodged at the Chittenden County Correctional Center.

•  On Dec. 9 issued a no-trespass order to a juvenile who was caught stealing two cans of chewing tobacco from Champlain Farms. Police said the juvenile’s parents also paid for the products.
