MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police assisted a human services caseworker at the scene of what had been reported as the untimely death of a Twin Circles woman on Aug. 7. But upon arrival, Middlebury Police Officer Kevin Emilio determined the woman was in fact alive, and she was quickly taken to Porter Hospital.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Responded to a noise complaint in the Porter Medical Center parking lot on Aug. 5.

•  Investigated reports from some Middlebury Inn guests that some people had been smashing glass and yelling in the town park gazebo on Aug. 5. Police found no people or smashed glass in the gazebo when they arrived on the scene.

•  Were informed on Aug. 6 that someone had stolen some sterling silver salt and pepper shakers from a Nedde Lane residence sometime during the summer.

•  Served a criminal summons on a local resident on Aug. 6 on behalf of the Moriah, N.Y., Police Department.

•  Investigated an alleged break-in at a Commodore Way home on Aug. 7. Police said nothing appeared to be missing or damaged inside the home.

•  Were informed that someone had allegedly stolen prescription medicine from a Washington Street Extension residence on Aug. 7.

•  Investigated a report of a possible drunken driver in the Court Street area on Aug. 8. Police said they found no such driver in the area.

•  Responded to a report of a speeding sawdust truck on Foote Street on Aug. 8.

•  Checked on the well-being of an Ossie Road man whom a family member had been unable to contact on Aug. 8. Police found the man asleep and his phone not functioning.

•  Took into protective custody a drunken woman who was seen stumbling across North Pleasant Street on Aug. 8.

•  Responded to a noise complaint in the Valley View Drive area on Aug. 9.

•  Found a 15-year-old youth in the Middlebury College parking lot off Shannon Street who had been consuming alcohol on Aug. 9. Police said they will seek possession of malt beverage charges in the case.

•  Turned over to a sober person a drunken man who was seated on the steps of a Court Street apartment building on Aug. 9.

•  Were informed of the theft of two inspection stickers from unlocked vehicles parked in the Elm Street area on Aug. 9.

•  Assisted a North Pleasant Street resident whose bike was stolen on Aug. 9.

•  Responded to a noise complaint at the Aurora School on Sugarwood Court on Aug. 10.

•  Took into protective custody an unruly, intoxicated Porter Hospital patient on Aug. 10.

•  Took into protective custody a drunken man who had been walking around the North Pleasant Street area on Aug. 10.

•  Investigated a report of an unresponsive man on a bench on the town green on Aug. 10. Middlebury Volunteer Ambulance Association personnel took the man to Porter Hospital.

•  Confiscated a marijuana plant found growing outside of a North Pleasant Street residence on Aug. 10.

•  Cited Raymond Heitmann, 53, of Middlebury for driving under the influence following a stop for speeding on Court Street on Aug. 10.

•  Investigated a report of a man passed out on the steps of a John Graham Court residence on Aug. 11. Police said the MVAA tended to the man, who had become very intoxicated after drinking mouthwash.

•  Received a report of a woman trying to harm herself at a Route 7 North location on Aug. 11. Police said the woman received counseling at Porter Hospital.

•  Were informed of the alleged assault of a man by a woman in the South Village Green neighborhood on Aug. 11. Police said the matter is under investigation.

•  Returned a local hitchhiker on Route 7 South to her home on Aug. 11.

•  Silenced a horn that someone had activated on an excavator on Middlebury College campus on Aug. 11.

•  Assisted a Cross Street resident who was dealing with some mental health issues on Aug. 12.

•  Cited Joshua Pushee, 18, of Middlebury for being a minor in possession of alcohol following an investigation in the John Graham Court area on Aug. 12. Police allege that Pushee initially ran from them when questioned about the alcohol offense.
