Middlebury Police Log: Local doctor refuses to treat suspicious man

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police responded to a report of a suspicious man asking for care at a Court Street physician’s office on Sept. 4. The physician told police he recognized the man, whom he said had come in last year complaining of tooth pain only to steal a prescription pad, from which he allegedly wrote some fraudulent prescriptions.

The doctor refused to treat the man this time and notified police. The matter remains under investigation.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Responded to a noise complaint at a Seminary Street residence on Sept. 2.

•  Helped Porter Hospital staff gain control of an unruly patient on Sept. 2.

•  Warned a man who was waving a curtain rod at passing cars on Route 7 North on Sept. 2.

•  Assisted a Buttolph Drive resident complaining of an unwanted visitor on Sept. 2.

•  Investigated a report of gunshots in the Happy Valley Road area on Sept. 3.

•  Wrote a civil ticket for possession of marijuana to a driver stopped for operating erratically on Pulp Mill Bridge Road on Sept. 3.

•  Served a no-trespass order on a North Pleasant Street resident on Sept. 3.

•  Recovered a small bag of marijuana that had been located on Middlebury Union High School grounds on Sept. 3.

•  Issued a civil ticket to a woman found to be in possession of a small quantity of marijuana following a traffic stop on Case Street on Sept. 4.

•  Responded to an alleged assault involving a juvenile at MUHS on Sept. 4.

•  Were informed that a tree had fallen across Upper Plains Road on Sept. 5.

•  Investigated a truancy complaint at MUHS on Sept. 5.

•  Arrested Nathan Brown, 18, of Rutland on an outstanding warrant on Sept. 5.

•  Investigated a reported burglary at Specialized Community Care on Route 7 South on Sept. 5.

•  Responded to a noise complaint in the Murdoch Court/Weybridge Street area on Sept. 5.

•  Made contact with a man on Sept. 6 who had not shown up for work for three days. Turns out the man had been sick.

•  Investigated a hit-and-run case involving two vehicles in the Maplefields lot off North Pleasant Street on Sept. 6.

•  Received, from a helpful citizen, a man’s wedding band that had been found at Shea Motors on Route 7 South on Sept. 6.

•  Responded to a two-vehicle accident in the MUHS parking lot off Charles Avenue on Sept. 6.

•  Responded to a report of a woman taking items from in front of a Washington Street residence on Sept. 7. Police said the woman thought the items had been placed out for free, according to police.

•  Assisted Middlebury Volunteer Ambulance Association officials with a patient who was having mental health issues on Sept. 7.

•  Received a complaint, to be investigated under the town’s junk ordinance, about a Buttolph Drive residence on Sept. 7.

•  Referred, to the Department of Children and Families, an alleged sexual offense involving a juvenile in the Elm Street area on Sept. 7.

•  Destroyed drug paraphernalia found in the grass outside of a North Pleasant Street business on Sept. 7.

•  Cited Melinda Morgan, 31, of Middlebury for violating her conditions of release, following an incident off Porter Drive on Sept. 7.

•  Investigated a report of a drunken woman leaving her shoes behind in a North Pleasant Street store on Sept. 8.

•  Responded to a man on Court Street who was allegedly threatening to harm himself on Sept. 8. Police said the man was suffering from an extreme toothache and was taken to Porter Hospital.

•  Interviewed a woman who said her Court Street apartment had been entered on Sept. 8. Police said the woman reported she had come home to find a sheet hanging from an open kitchen window. Police and the resident determined that nothing was missing from the home.

•  Returned a lost iPhone to its owner on Sept. 8.

•  Assisted a man in unlocking his van in order to get his child whom he had accidentally locked inside while the vehicle was parked on Main Street on Sept. 8.

•  Investigated a report of a man allegedly checking doors on a North Pleasant Street building on Sept. 8.
