RIPTON — A 54-year-old Ripton man who has been missing since Nov. 23 apparently was killed when is car left Route 125 in Ripton and crashed into the woods sometime in the past 9 days.
Vermont State Police were called to the intersection of Route 125 and Steam Mill Road, near the Bread Loaf campus, at 9:20 p.m. Monday night to a report of a vehicle that had gone over an embankment and into the river there. They found the body of James P. Daignault there with his totaled 2001 Plymouth Neon.
Daignault was reported missing on Nov. 25. He was seen on Saturday, Nov. 23, at approximately 10 a.m. when he was leaving his residence in Ripton en route to a food shelf in Burlington. Reports indicated that Daignault was last seen at the Middlesex Park and Ride lot, where he had met friends to go to the food shelf. They later dropped him back at his vehicle at the Middlesex parking lot that day at approximately 2:30 p.m.
On Tuesday morning police said they were still investigating the crash.
