VERGENNES — On Aug. 12 Vergennes police patrolled the city and surrounding area in a driving-under-the-influence patrol. Police issued six speeding tickets, one ticket for not wearing a seatbelt and one ticket to a tractor-trailer driver whose brakes did not work properly.

In addition to conducting several foot patrols, Vergennes police last week:

•  On Aug. 11 cited Randy S. Rodgers, 49, of Mineville, N.Y., for driving with a criminally suspended license and for speeding on Panton Road.

•  On Aug. 11 received  a report from parents at a city residence who were concerned that their 13-year-old daughter had been contacted by a 23-year-old male. Police issued a no-trespass order to the man.

•  On Aug. 11 looked into a complaint from a couple at a Panton Road trailer park who said the man’s ex-girlfriend had driven by, called the new girlfriend a name and threw an empty water bottle out of the vehicle’s window, not injuring anyone. Police were unable to contact the ex-girlfriend, but said charges may be pending.

•  On Aug. 11 received a report of a male running naked through a Panton Road trailer park. Police were unable to find the man.

•  On Aug. 11 told a couple parked behind some trees in Falls Park that they were violating the park curfew, and they moved along.

•  On Aug. 12 assisted the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad with a resident at a Green Street home. The male patient was arguing with VARS officials, and the officer convinced him to calm down and go to the hospital.

•  On Aug. 12 responded to a collision on Greenbush Road until Vermont State Police arrived.

•  On Aug. 12 arrested Jaquan K. Holley, 22, of Newark, N.J., for attempting to bite a Northlands Job Corps security officer while the officer was trying to detain him for possession of marijuana on school grounds. Vergennes Police Chief George Merkel said Holley also attempted to assault the Vergennes officer when he showed up. Holley was lodged at the Chittenden County Correctional Facility for lack of $3,000 bail. Vermont State Police and Addison County Sheriff’s deputies assisted at the scene.

•  On Aug. 12 were told that someone drove away from Champlain Farms without paying for gasoline. The person returned to pay.

•  On Aug. 12 were told by a female that she was being stalked; she received disturbing messages. Vergennes police contacted the Burling Police Department and contacted Verizon to get ahold of texts involved in the case, which is still under investigation.

•  On Aug. 14 at around 1 a.m. responded to a report of noise off Bowman Road and busted an underage drinking party. Police cited two minor youths for furnishing alcohol to minors and cited four minors for possessing alcohol. Shortly thereafter police received a report from a nearby resident who said someone was trying to get in their window to get away from the authorities. Police issued the minor a no-trespass order.

•  On Aug. 14 responded to a false burglary alarm at a city business.

•  On Aug. 14 helped a driver who was locked out of their vehicle on Ice House Court.

•  On Aug. 15 looked into a report of a person walking on Sand Road in Ferrisburgh wearing dark clothing. Police said the person was sober, and the officer told the person to stay off the road.

•  On Aug. 15 passed on a check to a city resident from a Burlington business. The check was in payment for damage done to the resident’s property when a truck slid off the road earlier this year.

•  On Aug. 15 investigated a report of vandalism to a car on First Street. Police said the car had run over a nail and the nail lodged in a tire.

•  On Aug. 15 responded to a 911 hangup on Main Street. All was fine.

•  On Aug. 15 ticketed a car parked in front of a fire hydrant.

•  On Aug. 15 were called to an incident at Job Corps and issued court diversion paperwork to the party involved.

•  On Aug. 16 investigated a report of gunshots on Green Street. Police said it was actually fireworks but they couldn’t find the people who set them off.

•  On Aug. 16 found a person sleeping behind the elementary school. Police found him a spot in an emergency shelter in Middlebury the next day.

•  On Aug. 16 received a report of children playing near the solar farm off Monkton Road. Police contacted an adult who rents the land on which the solar panels sit and found out that the children were tending sheep on the property.

•  On Aug. 17 assisted a driver who was locked out of a car on Main Street.

•  On Aug. 17 assisted the VSP by following up on a report that an unauthorized person was inside the Ferrisburgh Central School after hours; Vergennes police found no one inside.
