ADDISON COUNTY — With the help of a couple police departments, Vermont State Police caught a fleeing suspect after a Route 7 chase late last Friday night.

On Sept. 30 at approximately 10:15 p.m. troopers received a complaint of a vehicle traveling southbound on Route 7 in Ferrisburgh operating in an erratic manner. State police found the vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle quickly accelerated to an excessive rate of speed, according to police.

With the assistance from both the Bristol and Vergennes police departments the vehicle’s tires were deflated with Spike Strips.

After the tires were deflated, the pursuit lasted several minutes, at which point the driver, later identified as 33-year-old Christopher M. Thompson of Vergennes, exited his vehicle and took off on foot. A brief foot pursuit ensued.

After a brief altercation, police subdued Thompson and placed him into custody.

Thompson was transported to the New Haven state police barracks for processing. He was cited for driving under the influence (second offense), attempting to elude a police officer, grossly careless and negligent driving, speeding, resisting arrest and unlawful mischief. Police said they did not conduct a roadside blood alcohol test.

In other recent activity, Vermont State Police:

•  On Sept. 28 began investigation of a reported burglary at a Mountain Road home in Addison. •  On Sept. 28 looked into a burglary at a Route 30 residence in Sudbury. Between Sept. 6 and Sept. 24 an unknown person(s) used a prying tool to force entry into the residence and stole several items to include three sets of scaffolding, a laser level, and a sawzall. This investigation is currently ongoing. Anyone with information in this crime is asked to contact state police in Rutland at 802-773-9101. •  On Sept. 29 at approximately 3:16 p.m. went to investigate a one-car crash on Lime Kiln Road in New Haven. At the scene, Holly Mitton, 23, of Lunenburg told state police that she was driving a 2008 Ford Ranger southbound on Lime Kiln Road at approximately 30-35 mph when she drove over an “washboard” area of the road, which caused her vehicle to fishtail. Mitton said she believed the rear of her vehicle subsequently caught some metal posts near a drainage ditch, which caused the vehicle to overturn. Mitton was uninjured as a result of the collision and her vehicle sustained moderate damage. Neither alcohol nor drugs played a factor in the collision, police report.

•  On Sept. 30 at a little after 9:30 a.m., responded to a crash involving two tractor-trailers on Route 22A near Route 74 East in Shoreham. Police report that 74-year-old John King of Hinesburg, driving a 2014 Freightliner pulled out on to Route 22A from a parking lot and collided with the side of a 2017 Freightliner driven by Normand Plante, 54, of Longuevil, Quebec. King was taken by Middlebury Regional EMS to Porter Hospital for evaluation; his truck sustained massive front-end damage. Plante was not injured. The crash resulted in Route 22A being closed for over an hour until both vehicle could be safely removed and fluids from King’s truck could be cleared off of the road.

•  On Oct. 2 at 7:24 p.m. received a complaint of a vehicle operating erratically traveling southbound on Silver Street in Hinesburg. The complainant remained behind the vehicle until state police were able to initiate a traffic stop on Route 7 in New Haven. After investigating police said they suspected the driver, 20-year-old Kayla A. Roorda of Whiting, was driving under the influence of drugs.  Police took Roorda into custody, transported her to the New Haven barracks and had an official drug recognition expert evaluate her. Police said criminal charges are pending the results of a blood test.
