ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police responded to a 911 call this past Friday night, April 28, a little before midnight of a one-car rollover crash on Route 125 in Ripton near the Middlebury town line.

When troopers arrived on the scene, fire and rescue personnel were already on scene and told police that the driver and only occupant of the vehicle, 29-year-old Charles W. Desjadon of Ripton, had already been transported to Porter Hospital for treatment of cuts on his head.

Police report that just prior to the crash, a large section of rock ledge let loose on the east side of the roadway causing several large rocks to fall onto and across both lanes of the road. As Desjadon was traveling up Route 125 he observed the rocks falling onto the roadway but was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting them, police said.

The force of this impact caused Desjadon’s vehicle — a 2012 Jeep Wrangler — to leave the travel portion of the roadway and roll at least once before crashing on the roof in the northbound lane. It was noted that Desjadon was wearing his seatbelt, but he also had the front portion of the roof on his Jeep off at the time of this crash, causing his head to come in contact with the roadway.

The Jeep was considered a total loss.

No other vehicles were involved in this incident and Desjadon was treated and later released from Porter Hospital.

The highway was closed due to the rocks in road, Vermont Agency of Transportation personnel cleaned up the debris and the road was re-opened to traffic approximately four hours later.

In other recent activity, Vermont State Police:

•  This week announced that area law enforcement agencies would conduct sobriety checkpoints in Addison County within the next four weeks. This will be done in an effort to monitor the flow of traffic along Vermont’s highways in the interest of detecting and arresting persons under the influence of alcohol or any drug that has impaired their ability to operate a motor vehicle.

•  On April 24 at approximately 2:40 p.m. stopped a blue Kia Soul driven by Lauren Thompson, 26, of Leicester on Route 7 in New Haven for a moving violation. Police cited Thompson for driving with a criminally suspended license.

•  On April 25 at a quarter to 2 p.m. stopped for defective equipment a Saab sedan driven by 21-year-old Jason Curley of Essex Junction on Bristol Road in Monkton. Curley was arrested and transported to the New Haven barracks, where he was screened by a Drug Recognition Expert and deemed to be under the influence of drugs. Police cited Curley driving under the influence of drugs (second offense) and driving with a criminally suspended license.

•  On April 25 at 5:06 p.m. responded to a report of a one-car rollover crash on Interstate 189 Eastbound in South Burlington. The driver, identified as Travis Ringwig, 39, of Vergennes, was transported to UVM Medical Center for treatment of non-life threatening injuries sustained during the crash. Police report that they determined Ringwig was driving too fast for road conditions, which were described as damp.

•  On April 27 at 12:47 a.m. received a 911 call about a man who had walked to a residence on Sand Road in Ferrisburgh and said that he had been in a motor vehicle crash.

State police, assisted by the Vergennes police, responded to the call and found Christopher M. Jerome, 26, of Lincoln walking on Sand Road. Troopers said they determined that Jerome was attempting to drive into his driveway on Sand Road when he failed to do so and drove his vehicle into a grass ditch instead. No one was injured in this incident, but police suspected that Jerome had been drinking alcoholic beverages prior to the incident.

Jerome refused all standard field sobriety exercises as well as refused to take a preliminary breath test at the scene. State police cited Jerome for DUI, driving with a criminally suspended license, and for providing false information to a police officer.

•  On April 27 at approximately 6:30 a.m. responded to a motorcycle crash on Route 73 near Willowbrook Road in Sudbury. Police report that Craig I. Bilodeau, 27, of Whiting was driving a 2015 KTM motorcycle eastbound when he lost control of the bike while traveling around a corner, fell, and skidded into a guardrail. The Brandon Area Rescue Squad took Bilodeau to the Rutland Regional Medical center for treatment of unspecified injuries.

•  During the early morning hours of April 28 stopped a motor vehicle driven by Timothy Earl Edwards, 29, of Middlebury on North Main Street in Rutland for an observed traffic violation.
