MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police on Aug. 14 launched an investigation into allegations of sexual contact initiated by a boy toward a local girl.

Police said the Vermont Department for Children and Families asked them to investigate the matter.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Received a report on Aug. 13 that a local woman had posted on social media that she wanted to harm herself. Police made sure the woman was taken to a family member’s residence.

•  Helped Addison County Sheriff’s Department deputies at the county courthouse with a man whom they feared might become combative on Aug. 15.

•  Were informed three cars had been vandalized on Jayne Court on Aug. 14.

•  Investigated a noise complaint at the Jayne Court apartments on Aug. 14.

•  Served a temporary restraining order on a local resident for a Woodland Park residence on Aug. 14.

•  Served a temporary restraining order on Aug. 14 on a person not wanted at a Mill Street address.

•  Served a no-trespass order on Aug. 14 on a person not wanted at a Route 7 South address.

•  Were informed of the theft of a locked bicycle from a Main Street rack near the Ilsley Library on Aug. 15.

•  Responded to a dispute between some Jayne Court neighbors on Aug. 15.

•  Investigated a two-car crash in a Seymour Street parking lot on Aug. 16.

•  Were informed someone had driven way from the Maplefields store on North Pleasant Street without paying for $15 in gas on Aug. 16.

•  Checked on a homeless man who had been sleeping behind the Ilsley Library on Main Street on Aug. 16.

•  Assisted Addison County Sheriff’s Department deputies with a vehicle that had failed to stop for blue lights and sirens on North Pleasant Street on Aug. 17.

•  Responded to a report of loose, aggressive dogs on Seminary Street Extension on Aug. 17.

•  Served a temporary restraining order on a man in the Seminary Street Extension area on Aug. 17.

•  Helped a South Street Extension resident who had been receiving suspicious phone calls on Aug. 17.

•  Told a man sleeping in the park on Aug. 17 that he would have to leave.

•  Responded to East Main Street on Aug. 18 on a report of “multiple explosions.” Police determined the noises were a result of fireworks being set off from an unknown location.

•  Investigated a report of a dog being left alone in a hot car on Seymour Street on Aug. 18.

•  Investigated an alleged animal neglect incident at a Jackson Lane residence on Aug. 18, but determined the animals to be in good health.

•  Helped the Middlebury Fire Department at the scene of a gas leak at a construction site off Charles Avenue on Aug. 18.

•  Responded to a reported altercation between two people staying at the Courtyard by Marriot Hotel on Route 7 South on Aug. 19.

•  Investigated a fight that involved two attendees of the “Ciderstock” celebration at the Vermont Hard Cider headquarters off Exchange Street on Aug. 19. Police said a family member picked up the two combatants.

•  Responded to a motor vehicle accident, with minor injuries, on North Pleasant Street on Aug. 19.

•  Investigated a report of a dog being left in a warm car parked off Court Street on Aug. 19. Police said the vehicle had left upon their arrival

•  Responded to a two-vehicle crash, with minor injuries, at the intersection of Case Street and Quarry Road on Aug. 19.

•  Investigated an incident on South Pleasant Street on Aug. 19 involving stolen clothing.

•  Assisted Middlebury Regional EMS with a man who was having a panic attack at the Courtyard by Marriott Hotel on Aug. 19.

•  Responded to an Overbrook Drive home on Aug. 20 on a report of someone experiencing some mental health problems.

•  Investigated a report of unlawful mischief in the Munson Road neighborhood on Aug. 20.

•  Served a no-trespass order on Aug. 20 on a person who was no longer welcome at a Route 7 South business.

•  Responded on Aug. 20 to a report of an “out-of-control” mental health patient who was allegedly flooding the basement of a Birchard Park home with a garden hose.

•  Received on Aug. 20 a report of a hit-and-run accident on Main Street in which the culprit allegedly left the scene.
