Bristol Police Log: Police respond to reported threat of self-harm

BRISTOL — At 11:37 p.m. on Aug. 30, a Bristol police officer responded to a district home where a resident had reportedly threatened self-harm and gone off into the woods.

The officer found the resident at home, upset but denying self-harm and took no further action.

In other activity Aug. 28 through Sept. 3, Bristol police:

•  Patrolled Main Street and the surrounding area on Aug. 28, 29, 30, 31 (twice), Sept. 1 (twice) and Sept. 2.

•  Conducted security checks of Mount Abraham Union High School on Aug. 29 (twice), Aug. 31 and Sept. 3.

•  Completed three fingerprint requests for employment purposes and 28 fingerprint requests for volunteer purposes, on various days.

•  Took a report from a Liberty Street resident on Aug. 28 that at about 10 p.m. on Aug. 27 an unknown person rang the doorbell but was gone when the resident answered the door.

•  Took a report from a Maple Street resident on Aug. 28 that at about 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 27 an unknown person banged on the front door but was gone when the resident answered the door.

•  Responded on Aug. 28 to a North Street residence where a vehicle repossession company was having difficulty with a party. An officer stood by while personal effects were removed without incident.

•  Received notification on Aug. 28 of a reported assault in Bristol. Investigation revealed the location was outside the police district, so police forwarded the information to the Vermont State Police.

•  Conducted one hour of town-contracted traffic enforcement on Hardscrabble Road on Aug. 28. Police issued two tickets for speeding.

• Received a report from a Mountain Street resident on Aug. 28 of found property at her place of employment. Police said that the owner removed the found property before their arrival.

•  Met with Bristol business owners to discuss issues and concerns on Aug. 29.

•  Responded to a request for an FBI National Instant Criminal Background Check on a Bristol man on Aug. 29.

•  Returned a lost handicapped placard to its owner on Aug. 29.

•  Received a lost cell phone on Aug. 29 and identified the owner. The phone was retrieved by its owner on Sept. 3.

•  Assisted with traffic control at the intersection of West and South streets while work was being conducted on town water service on Aug. 29.

•  Investigated a reported case of vandalism to a Main Street resident’s vehicle on Aug. 29. Police found scuff marks on the vehicle indicating sideswipe damage, but did not identify a suspect vehicle.

•  Conducted an hour of Governor’s Highway Safety Program occupant protection patrol during the first day of school on Aug. 30, and issued one warning.

•  Assisted a utility worker with traffic control while work was being done at the intersection of Main and North streets on Aug. 30.

•  Responded to an alarm at a local business on Aug. 30.

•  Served a temporary relief from abuse order to a district resident at 12:54 p.m. on Aug. 31.

•  Served a temporary from abuse order to a district resident at 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 31.

•  Responded to a parking problem at West and School streets at 10:45 a.m. on Sept. 2. Police had the vehicles that were obstructing traffic moved.

•  Took part in an investigation with the Internet Crimes against Children Task Force within the district on Sept. 2.

•  Helped Middlebury police search a cellular device pursuant to a search warrant in an active criminal investigation on Sept. 3.

•  Conducted traffic control for four hours at Main and North streets for bicycle races on Sept. 3.
