MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police received a report of an alleged, attempted break-in at a Cross Street home on Oct. 31.

The homeowner said a white man with missing teeth and sporting a green Carhartt baseball cap tried to get into her home. When the homeowner confronted the man, he allegedly said he was “dropping some samples off” and ran away.

Police said they couldn’t find the man.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Investigated a report on Oct. 30 that someone had fraudulently used a local resident’s credit card.

•  Assisted Middlebury firefighters in responding to a tree that had fallen on Quarry Road on Oct. 30.

•  Helped firefighters and the local department of public works in locating trees that has fallen in other parts of Middlebury during the wind storm on Oct. 30.

•  Helped Green Mountain Power tend to a power line that had fallen onto Foote Street on Oct. 30.

•  Received a report on Oct. 31 that some passengers in a vehicle had yelled at a cyclist while traveling down Court Street Extension.

•  Investigated a report of a vehicle leaving the scene of an accident in the Washington Street area on Oct. 31.

•  Received a report of a possibly intoxicated visitor at the Turning Point Center on Creek Road on Oct. 31. Police said the visitor was given a ride home.

•  Confiscated some tobacco found in the possession of a minor on Middlebury Union High School grounds on Oct. 31.

•  Helped Vermont State Police on Nov. 1 apprehend a man whom they said was wanted for “various offenses” in Addison County.

•  Served no-trespass orders on two men who had allegedly been on the verge of a physical fight outside of Two Brothers Tavern on Nov. 2.

•  Were informed someone had allegedly stolen money and keys from a man’s wallet while he was at the Turning Point Center on Creek Road on Nov. 2.

•  Attempted to locate a bear after it had been struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Cobble Road and Munger Street on Nov. 3.

•  Investigated a two-car crash on Exchange Street on Nov. 3 that allegedly culminated in an altercation between the two drivers. Police said the incident is the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation.

•  Were asked to check the welfare check of a man said to be sleeping in a car in a parking lot off Court Street on Nov. 3. Police said the man had left upon their arrival.

•  Served a no-trespass order on a woman who was not wanted at the Champlain Farms store on Court Street on Nov. 3.

•  Helped with traffic control as the Middlebury Fire Department tended to a kitchen fire at the United Methodist Church off North Pleasant Street on Nov. 4.

•  Served a temporary restraining order on a man in the North Pleasant Street area on Nov. 4.

•  Investigated a report of a suspicious man in the North Pleasant Street area on Nov. 4.

•  Got help for a local man who said he had ingested an “excessive amount” of ibuprofen. Middlebury Regional EMS took the man to Porter Hospital for treatment on Nov. 5.

•  Responded to a noise complaint at a Washington Street residence on Nov. 5.

•           Received a report on Nov. 5 that someone had vandalized the rear fender of a truck while it was parked in the Exchange Street area on Nov. 5.
