MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police responded to a report of a domestic dispute in the Court Street area on Feb. 5 that police initially feared might involve a handgun.

Police determined no handgun was involved in the incident, which turned out to be a disagreement between a man and his mother. Police said the man was taken to Porter Hospital for a mental health evaluation.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Helped a person on South Street who was experiencing some mental health problems on Jan. 29.

•  Conducted a welfare check on Jan. 29 on a North Pleasant Street woman dealing with substance abuse issues. Police said they located the woman at Porter Hospital.

•  Responded to a report of a possible drunken driver on East Main Street on Jan. 29.

•  Were informed some cows had wandered into the intersection of Munger Street and Cobble Road on Jan. 30.

•  Investigated a report of a person banging a pipe along a stretch of the North Pleasant Street sidewalk on Jan. 30. Police could not find the man.

•  Investigated a dispute between some East Main Street neighbors on Jan. 30.

•  Cited Liam J. Fitzpatrick, 33, of Middlebury for driving under the influence, following their investigation of a traffic complaint on Seymour Street on Jan. 30.

•  Were informed a vehicle had left the scene of an accident on Court Street on Jan. 30.

•  Ticketed two vehicles that were in violation of the town’s overnight parking ban on College Street on Jan. 30.

•  Responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle driving around the Middlebury College campus on Jan. 30.

•  Responded to a noise complaint at a Weybridge Street apartment at 11:30 p.m. on Jan. 31. Police said the residents agreed to quiet down.

•  Responded to a family dispute at a Valley View home on Jan. 31. Police said the dispute was over the use of a family vehicle.

•  Responded to a report of a disabled tractor-trailer truck on Exchange Street on Jan. 31.

•  Conducted a welfare check on Feb. 1 on a local woman at the request of a son who had not spoken with his mother in more than a year. Police said they found the woman to be OK, but not interested in having any contact with her family.

•  Assisted Middlebury Regional EMS with a disoriented patient in the Court Street Extension area on Feb. 2.

•  Were informed of the theft of some maple sugaring equipment from a sugar works off Seminary Street Extension on Feb. 2. Police continue to investigate the case.

•  Ticketed and towed some vehicles that were in violation of the town’s winter parking ban on Park Street on Feb. 2.

•  Helped a woman who reported her jacket and phone had been stolen from Two Brothers Tavern on Feb. 2. Police said they were able to track the woman’s phone to North Pleasant Street, and then back to Two Brothers Tavern, where the woman’s jacket, purse and all its contents were found in the downstairs lounge.

•  Helped Middlebury College Public Safety investigate vandalism to a vehicle parked off Chateau Road on Feb. 3.
