MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police launched investigations into two alleged sex crimes reported in the community last week.

On May 1, Vermont Adult Protective Services and Middlebury police began looking into a potential sexual assault following an initial interview of an alleged victim at Porter Medical Center.

Then, on May 3, police were tipped off about a “possible child sexual abuse” case involving a local family.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•           Responded to a report of a man becoming disorderly during the legal repossession of a vehicle on Delancy Lane on May 1.

•           Helped defuse a family fight at a Perkins Lane residence on May 1.

•           Seized drugs and related paraphernalia after executing a search warrant at a Water Street home on May 1. Police said they were originally called to the home on a report of a domestic disturbance, which they determined was only verbal. Authorities became aware of the possible presence of drugs, and successfully applied for a warrant to search the suspect’s apartment and purse, according to police.

No arrests or charges had been handed down in the case as the Addison Independent went to press.

•           Took into protective custody a drunken man at the Middlebury Mobil Short Stop on Court Street Extension on May 2. Police said they measured the man’s blood-alcohol content at 0.242 percent; as a matter of comparison, the legal limit for driving is 0.08. Police said they took the man to a detox facility in Rutland.

•           Responded to a report of a man allegedly urinating near a Washington Street business on May 2.

•           Located the parent of an unsupervised one-year-old child who was walking on Thomas Street on May 2.

•           Warned some people who were found camping under the Cross Street Bridge on May 2.

•           Served a no-trespass order on May 2 on a woman who was barred from using the Addison County Transit Resources bus.

•           Received a report on May 3 of a local person posting “explicit photos” on Facebook.

•           Assisted Middlebury Regional EMS on May 3 with a woman who was having a medical emergency in the Heritage Circle area.

•           Investigated a reported assault at the Maplefields store on North Pleasant Street on May 3. Police said it was just a verbal dispute.

•           Ticketed a man for possession of marijuana following a traffic stop on Mead Lane on May 3.

•           Received a complaint on May 3 from a local resident who said someone had fraudulently used her credit card number to make some purchases out of state.

•           Assisted Vermont Department for Children & Families officials in taking two children into custody in Catamount Park on May 3.

•           Ticketed a woman for possession of marijuana following a traffic stop on Route 7 South on May 3.

•           Found a small bag of sedatives in the Middlebury Union High School parking lot on May 3.

•           Served a subpoena on May 4 to a woman in the North Pleasant Street area on behalf of the Bristol Police Department.

•           Responded on May 5 to an alleged domestic disturbance involving a girl and her stepfather in the Woodbridge Lane area on May 5. Police said the pair had had an argument.

•           Assisted Middlebury fire officials with a sawdust fire at the corner of Washington and High streets on May 5.

•           Responded to a reported verbal dispute at an East Main Street residence on May 6.

•           Warned a dirt-bike driver on May 6 not to ride through the MUHS athletic fields.

•           Received a report on May 6 that a man had left a Court Street Extension business without paying for some food. Police found the man, who agreed to pay for the food.

•           Helped Middlebury College Public Safety with a drunken man on campus on May 6.
