Bristol Police Log: Man cited for assault, burglary

BRISTOL — On July 6 Bristol police arrested Yohanan Svitavsky, 30, of Bristol, for burglary, assault, obstruction of justice and reckless endangerment.

Through investigation police said they determined that Svitavsky and another person entered the dwelling of an acquaintance and assaulted the occupant.

Svitavsky was lodged at the Chittenden County Correctional Center, arraigned July 9 and held without bail.

The incident remains under investigation.

Between July 2 and 22, Bristol police completed 33 foot and car patrols at various locations, namely on Mountain Street, Main Street and surrounding areas, including near Bristol Elementary School, as well as in the eastern part of the police district.

Officers also completed 7 hours and 35 minutes of directed patrol, traffic enforcement and patrols of the police district and the town under a town contract.

During that same period, officers checked security at Mount Abraham Union High School 16 times, completed five fingerprint requests and conducted 13 business checks on Main Street and surrounding areas.

 

In other recent activity, Bristol police:

•  On July 2 assisted Vermont State Police with a parking complaint.

•  On July 2 opened a request for a property watch.

•  On July 3 located an unsecured business and notified the owner, who secured same.

•  On July 3 monitored traffic and pedestrians during the town fireworks.

•  On July 3 responded to the report of fireworks in Kountry Trailer Park.

•  On July 4 monitored traffic and pedestrians during Fourth of July events.

•  On July 4 responded to a minor two-car collision on Stoney Hill Road.

•  On July 4 initiated an investigation into a reported court order violation.

•  On July 4 assisted state police with a motor vehicle complaint.

•  On July 5 assisted the Bristol Rescue Squad.

•  On July 6 investigated the report of a vehicle striking the guardrail on Rockydale Road but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•  On July 6 initiated an investigation into a report of text message harassment.

•  On July 7 assisted the Bristol Rescue Squad.

•  On July 7 released to their owners, upon completion of appropriate licensing, two dogs that had been turned over to police after being discovered loose in the Rockydale area.

•  On July 7 assisted the Public Works Department.

•  On July 9 facilitated the return of property found and turned over to police.

•  On July 9 began investigating an alleged incident of abuse or neglect that had been reported to a state agency. Investigation is ongoing.

•  On July 9 conducted a property check for a resident who was away.

•  On July 10 assisted state police with locating a person.

•  On July 10 conducted checks on five sex offenders and found all to be in compliance.

•  On July 10 initiated a drug investigation.

•  On July 10 located two unsecured businesses and notified the owners, who secured same.

•  On July 11 initiated an accident report for a vehicle struck while parked in the Shaw’s parking lot on July 8.

•  On July 11 responded to the report of a threat but determined the action did not rise to the level of an offense.

•  On July 11 located an unsecure business and notified the owner, who secured same.

•  On July 12 assisted state police with a motor vehicle incident.

•  On July 12 assisted Shelburne police.

•  On July 13 assisted Vergennes police.

•  On July 14 cited Gary Fisk, 55, of Bristol, for driving under the influence. Fisk was processed and released with a citation to appear in Addison County Superior Court.

•  On July 15 located an unsecure business and notified the owner, who secured same.

•  July 16 checked the welfare of a local person upon request. No emergency services were required.

•  July 16 found a cell phone on Main Street near the intersection of North Street and locked it up at station.

•  July 16 attended countywide training put on by the Addison County States Attorney’s Office at the state police barracks.

•  July 16 found money at the town park.

•  July 17 received a report of an audible alarm in the Liberty Street area; it was a residential smoke/fire alarm sitting on a car in a driveway.

•  July 17 located damage to a chain link fence at the entrance to the recreation field that was damaged as a result of a vehicle losing control and running off the road hitting the fence.  Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Bristol police 802-453-2533.

•  July 18 logged a report of suspicious activity at a local business. Police performed an interview and viewed a video and determined no action rose to the level of an offense.

•  July 18 met with students at Bristol Elementary School along with Bristol fire and Bristol rescue officials to discuss first responder roles and display emergency response vehicles.

•  July 18 heard an audible alarm at local residence, which was apparently a malfunctioning fire alarm. Police contacted the homeowner.

•  July 18 found that someone left four horizontal blinds, with a floral pattern, at the police department. The owner can contact Bristol police at 453-2533 to retrieve same.

•  July 19 completed vehicle identification number verifications for local residents.

•  July 19 checked the welfare of a resident following a report from a concerned citizen; no further action required.

•  July 20 attended training at the Vermont Police Academy.

•  July 20 directed traffic on Main Street while a tow truck removed a disabled vehicle.

•  July 20 were told about the theft of an inspection sticker from a vehicle.  Investigation continues.

•  July 21 received a complaint of a dog left inside a vehicle during the evening hours.  The dog was not in distress and the owner was contacted at a nearby business. 

•  Cited Megan Swinton, 18, of Bristol for dispensing marijuana to minors following an investigation. As part of a drug-related investigation, Bristol police executed a search warrant at a Main Street residence. Bristol officers were assisted by Vergennes and state police.

•  July 22 completed a welfare check and found all OK.

•  July 22 an off duty officer witnessed a male subject parked in the Shaw’s parking lot with an open container of alcohol in the vehicle.  Follow up to be conducted.

•  July 22 assisted Vermont State Police.
