VERGENNES — Late this past Saturday Vergennes police dealt with a man who they said admitted drinking too much and was arguably wearing too little: He was naked when they first encountered him outside a First Street home.

City police responded to a call late on Saturday saying there was a naked man with a bicycle on Panton Road. When they arrived they found the man unclothed in a First Street yard. He then, police said, went onto the home’s porch and put on a pair of shoes.

After police persuaded the man to dress himself, police said the man told them he had consumed more than a dozen beers and then, while he was naked, had walked over to Hillside Drive to pick up his bicycle. Police contacted the man’s girlfriend and left him in her care.

In other incidents between July 16 and 22, Vergennes police:

On July 16:

•  Arrested Kyle Tebidor, 26, of Ferrisburgh at a traffic stop and cited him for operating with a criminally suspended license and driving without insurance, known as DLS. Police also learned there were an outstanding warrant for Tebidor for failing to appear in court to answer to charges of buying, selling, receiving or possessing stolen property, and another criminal DLS; they escorted him to Addison Superior Court, where he paid bail to be released.

•  Quickly responded to a report of a vehicle rolling backward on Green Street, and with help from a city employee and a passerby stopped the car before it struck anything and then blocked its wheels. Police could not immediately contact its owner.

On July 17:

•  Investigated a theft at Northlands Job Corps and along with prosecutors decided not to issue a citation; police said money taken from a pair of pants was returned.

•  Called Shelburne rescue personnel to transport to Porter Hospital for counseling a disheveled man walking barefoot on Panton road and threatening to harm himself.

On July 19:

•  Stood by a disabled vehicle at the junction of Route 7 and Monkton Road until a tow truck arrived.

•  Took a report from a Vergennes man that he had been threatened while in Middlebury; city police talked it over with Middlebury police, who were familiar with the incident and had determined no threat had been made.

On July 20:

•  Lodged Anthony Smith Jr., 21, of Vergennes at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court to answer to a disorderly conduct charge.

•  Helped Vermont State Police by responding to a minor two-car accident on Fields Road in Ferrisburgh.

•  Were told that about $4 in change had been stolen from an unlocked car on East Street.

•  Helped state police deal with a combative suspect at a motor vehicle stop at the junction of Route 7 and Monkton Road.

•  Sent the department K-9 unit to check a vehicle on behalf of state police in New Haven. According to city police, the dog alerted on the car, after which troopers obtained a search warrant and found empty bags allegedly used to carry heroin and a stolen firearm that a suspect allegedly hoped to trade for drugs.

On July 21:

•  Drove a drunken man walking in Macdonough Drive to his girlfriend’s residence.

•  Calmed a family fight on Comfort Hill.

•  Stood by at a West Main Street residence while a man retrieved belongings from an ex’s residence; the woman later accused him of scratching her car while he was on the premises.

•  Helped owners get into their locked vehicles on Green Street and the Shaw’s Supermarket parking lot.

•  Served a Valley Vista resident an order from a Franklin County court.

•  Heard a complaint from a local business that a local resident owed money, but determined it was a civil complaint.

•  After an alarm sounded determined that a door was unlocked at the Ferrisburgh Jiffy Mart and secured it.
