ADDISON COUNTY — On April 13 troopers from the New Haven and Rutland state police barracks investigated the thefts of heavy equipment and tractor batteries from Ploof Excavating and the town of Salisbury on Upper Plains Road in Salisbury and Mountain Meadow Farm on Vail Road in Sudbury. While investigating the incidents, troopers received information resulting in the arrests of Cale Quenneville, 18, of Brandon and Scott Lanpher, 24, of Leicester.

They cited the men into court for three counts of grand larceny and three counts of unlawful mischief.

In other recent activity, VSP troopers:

•  On April 7 at 3:30 a.m. were dispatched to a domestic assault call on Route 22A in Orwell. Police said their investigation revealed that Sean Williams, 28, of Granville, N.Y., had assaulted a person with whom he was once in a domestic relationship. Williams was arrested by troopers on April 9 and processed at the New Haven state police barracks. He was flash cited into the Addison Criminal Division for domestic assault.

•  On April 9 at around 3 p.m. received a call from a resident of Rockydale Road in Bristol indicating he had located what appeared to be copper blasting caps in a box full of junk he purchased at a yard sale. VSP Bomb Squad members were briefed on the complaint and it was deemed that the blasting caps could be very unstable. The bomb squad responded to secure the blasting caps from the Bristol resident, and destroy them.

•  On April 11 at approximately 2:59 p.m. used an “Automated License Plate Reader” on Route 7 in Ferrisburgh, and stopped a Ford pickup whose operator was suspected of driving a motor vehicle while under criminal suspension. The trooper cited Craig Walker, 47, of South Burlington for a criminal count of driving with a suspended license.

•  On April 12 at 3:20 p.m. responded to a one-vehicle accident on Route 22A in Addison. Police said Joseph Young, 89, of Ticonderoga, N.Y., was driving a 2003 Honda Pilot southbound on Route 22A when the minivan traveled off the west side of the road and collided with a mailbox. Young told police that the sun came out from behind a cloud and interfered with his vision temporarily.

•  On April 12 at 11 p.m. were called to investigate a collision involving a motor vehicle that collided with a mailbox and post on Church Street in Orwell and subsequently left the scene of the collision. The estimated damage to the mailbox post is $40. The mailbox itself was not damaged. Evidence at the scene indicated a Chrysler was involved in the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the VSP New Haven barracks at 802-388-4919.

•  Responded to a report of stolen property on Friday night, April 13. Ginger Armell of Waltham reported a Nintendo DS and two games were stolen. Trooper Armstrong said investigation uncovered the fact that the items were sold at the University Mall on April 9, and VSP arrested Laura Armell, 26, and William Wright, 29, both of Waltham. Armell and Wright were cited to appear in Addison District Court for selling and possessing stolen property.

•  On April 15 at 2:24 p.m. responded to a one-car crash at 5909 Route 17 in Starksboro. Troopers said that Skyler L. Browder, 22, of Salisbury was driving a Honda Civic eastbound on Route 17 up a sloping right curve when the car went left of the center line and came to a position of controlled rest facing east off the north side of the roadway. The weather was reported to be cloudy, the road dry. The car sustained damage to its front left bumper, and Browder was uninjured. The trooper issued Browder a ticker for failing to drive to the right.
