Middlebury Police Log: Quartet cited for drugs, alcohol

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Tayler E. Gorton, 19, of Hinesburg for possession of LSD, following a traffic stop at the intersection of Court Street Extension and South Village Green on March 4.

Police said they also ticketed three occupants of the vehicle for possession of marijuana and/or alcohol during the stop.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Responded, with Counseling Service of Addison County (CSAC) officials, to a Court Street residence on a report of a man experiencing mental health issues on Feb. 26.

Addison town meeting wrap-up 2018

ADDISON — In Australian balloting on March 6, Addison residents supported town and Addison Northwest School District spending proposals and a land swap with ANWSD. Residents had no contested races to decide, but did return an incumbent to the ANWSD board via write-ins.

Residents backed two spending measures for the town.

Brandon town meeting wrap-up 2018

BRANDON — All floor and ballot items passed on Town Meeting Day in Brandon this year.

The $1.4 million bond question to pay for infrastructure improvements to Park Street passed overwhelmingly, 488-123.

Bridport town meeting wrap-up 2018

BRIDPORT — Bridport residents at their town meeting elected David Bronson to a three-year term on their selectboard and passed all of the money items on their warning.

Bronson topped Brice Stocker, 127 to 91, in the one contested race.

Residents agreed to spend up to $340,000 to replace the Sunderland Bridge on Crown Point Road. That project is contingent on the town receiving $175,000 in state money to go along with $165,000 in local funds to finance the project.

Bristol town meeting wrap-up 2018

BRISTOL — Bristol voters on Town Meeting Day re-elected two selectboard members and filled half their open seats on the unified school board. Along with voters from four other towns, they also approved the district school budget and rejected the Mt. Abe renovation bond.

Joel Bouvier and Peter Coffey, both running unopposed, were re-elected to the selectboard. Town Clerk and Treasurer Jen Myers was re-elected to a one-year term.

Ferrisburgh town meeting wrap-up 2018

FERRISBURGH — Ferrisburgh residents at Saturday’s town meeting supported town spending, including a major equipment purchase, and in Tuesday’s Australian balloting chose a new selectboard member and backed Addison Northwest School District bond and budget proposals.

The Ferrisburgh selectboard race was created because Chairwoman Loretta Lawrence chose to step down after 17 years on that board, a tenure that followed seven years on the Ferrisburgh zoning board.

Goshen town meeting wrap-up 2018

GOSHEN — After the annual potluck Monday evening, Goshen residents passed every item on the ballot in a relatively tame town meeting.

Voters will go forward with a general fund spending plan of $242,753, which represents a $9,936, or 4.2 percent, increase from last year’s approved budget of $232,817. Voters had thought they were voting on a $229,253 spending plan; the extra $13,500 will cover a new stainless steel sander and a new moldboard (the curved metal on a snowplow’s front end used to move snow) to improve care of town roads.

Granville town meeting wrap-up 2018

GRANVILLE — Granville residents could have made several decisions to significantly alter the structure of their town offices, but 48 out of 229 registered voters chose instead to keep things mostly the same.

The town report listed more than 20 benefits Granville would gain from starting its own town highway department; currently roadwork is contracted out. Those benefits included repairs that would be done in a timely manner and better-managed costs. The proposal, which included $199,800 to purchase road equipment and hiring a full-time road foreman, was defeated.

Hancock town meeting wrap-up 2018

HANCOCK — At a fairly quiet town meeting Tuesday morning, Hancock residents passed a 2019 town-highway budget of $371,088, which represents a $46,382 reduction from the current $417,470 spending plan.

Residents also voted to approve a combined total of $30,121 for various social services organizations that serve Hancock, including the White River Valley Ambulance service.
