MIDDLEBURY — The Henry Sheldon Museum of Vermont History will be marching to a new tune at its biggest annual fund-raiser on June 30 in order to add a little musical variety while cranking up the financial return.

For the past 18 years, the Sheldon Museum Pops Concert, which is hosted in the week leading up to the Fourth of July, had featured the Vermont Symphony Orchestra (VSO) as lead performer during an evening culminating in fireworks. The concert has yielded an important piece of the nonprofit Sheldon’s annual revenue stream.

BRISTOL — Mount Abraham Union High School sent 126 graduates into a very soggy world on Saturday, amid advice that they should cherish the memories they made on campus and that they should thank the many people who nurtured them through their academic years.

Unrelenting rainfall failed to dampen the spirits of the throngs of relatives, friends, teachers and students who assembled beneath a large tent that had been raised east of the school building.

MIDDLEBURY — Suzanne Sawyer of Middlebury was staring into the abyss after her only child, James Forrest, died in 2007 following a lengthy battle with drug addiction.

But teacher Alwyn “Algy” Layden doesn’t need to search an archive to get knowledge about Mary Hogan. He not only worked with the legendary leader of the school, she hired him in 1968.
