By Addison Independent

MIDDLEBURY — Addison County Transit Resources (ACTR) will publish a new Shuttle Bus System schedule on Friday, Dec. 1.

This redesigned schedule will reflect changes brought about by the relocation of its Middlebury Transit Hub bus stop. The move, from Merchants Row to Academy Street, was necessitated by the bigger Downtown Railroad Bridge Replacement Project, which is replacing the decrepit bridge on Merchants Row near the former bus stop.

Proposed per-parcel fee could pay for lake cleanup

Posted on November 16, 2017 |
By Mike Polhamus of VTDigger.org

VERMONT — Sen. Chris Bray, D-New Haven, has proposed legislation that would fund programs with a per-parcel fee.

The Legislature last spring asked a working group made up of members of Gov. Phil Scott’s cabinet to find a long-term funding source for phosphorus reduction efforts.

In a report released Tuesday, Scott administration officials failed to find a way to pay for Lake Champlain cleanup and suggest that a new revenue source should not be identified until after fiscal year 2021. Scott, a Republican, ran on a no new taxes pledge.

ADDISON COUNTY — Area deer hunters enjoyed the second best opening weekend of rifle season since 2005, bringing 242 bucks to an Addison County weigh station on this past Nov. 11 or 12.

That total of deer taken came just seven short of 2016’s opening weekend kill of 249. That total was the best opening weekend result since Vermont wildlife officials in 2005 banned the taking of spikehorn bucks during November’s 16-day rifle season, the most popular of the state’s deer hunting seasons.

ADDISON COUNTY — Young hunters around Addison County enjoyed more success during Youth Hunting Weekend on Nov. 4 and 5 than in any youth weekend since 2012. They brought 110 deer they shot to one of the county’s weigh stations.

That total of 110 surpassed last year’s of 94, while the numbers from 2013 to 2015 ranged from 78 to 109.

The year 2012, when 124 young hunters brought down deer, stands as the local high-water mark since the Department of Fish and Wildlife founded the two-day youth weekend.
