Festive holiday activities this weekend in Bristol, Vergennes and Middlebury

ADDISON COUNTY — The holiday happenings kick into high gear in Bristol, Vergennes and Middlebury this weekend as all three of the county’s largest towns host many activities related to Christmas and the holidays.

From chocolate and caroling to Santa and shopping, there are events planned to suit just about everyone’s taste.

Three women charged with sheltering Bristol runaway

BRISTOL — Bristol police on Nov. 22 arrested three Hinesburg women on suspicion of helping a runaway Bristol youth hide from police.

Police cited Manuela Mauss, 32; Tina Miller, 38; and Michelle Granger, 42, for unlawful sheltering. Authorities allege the trio helped 17-year-old Shawn Lussier, who went missing Nov. 11 from Bristol, hide for 11 days.

Problems mount for Bristol fire department

BRISTOL — Bristol Fire Chief Brett LaRose gave a grim appraisal of the town firehouse’s condition to the Bristol selectboard Monday evening.

LaRose presented a 10-page study by Williston firm Childs Engineering that outlined the numerous shortcomings of the North Street firehouse, which was built in 1897.

“This report makes it reality, all the issues we have had and currently have,” LaRose told the board. “We’re dealing with a building that’s just unsafe.”

Bristol Police Log: Cops busy with out-of-control students, drunk drivers

BRISTOL — Bristol police dealt with a variety of incidents in the month of October, according to a crime log issued last week by Chief Kevin Gibbs. They included out-of-control students, drug violations, drunken driving and several false alarms.

In those 31 days, Bristol police:

•  On Oct. 1 at 10:50 a.m. were asked by officials at Mount Abraham Union High School to issue a no-trespass notice against a former student.

Bristol Police Log: Gun reports, arguing neighbors occupy cops

BRISTOL — Bristol police dealt with a variety of incidents in September, according to a log of activity just released by Police Chief Kevin Gibbs.

Through the month, Bristol police conducted three town contract patrols and six patrols funded by the Governor’s Highway Safety Program on various roads around town at all hours of the day. These patrols netted 15 warnings and four tickets for various driving violations.

Many thanks to everyone involved in the New Haven River Bridge, from the planners and all those whose photo appeared in the Addison Independent cutting the ribbon as well as to all those who showed up early for work in all kinds of weather and whose photo did not appear. Bristol police arrest New Haven man on warrant

BRISTOL — Bristol police on Nov. 5 detained a New Haven man who had a warrant out for his arrest from New Hampshire.

Grafton County, N.H., prosecutors allege that Ryan Oliver Sprigg, 31, committed a felony drug offense. Police said Sprigg failed to show up for a scheduled court hearing Oct. 10, prompting the judge to issue a warrant for his arrest.

Bristol police caught up with Sprigg around 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 5 and held him without bail.
