MIDDLEBURY — A lot of folks wouldn’t mind walking a few miles in Alexander Draper’s shoes.

Most days, this associate professor of theater can be found imparting the finer points of acting to eager, aspiring thespians at Middlebury College, Draper’s own alma mater. The prodigal son returned to Middlebury more than a decade ago after having spent 15 years displaying his acting chops and paying his dues in the City that Never Sleeps.

MIDDLEBURY — Spray graffiti on a wall at school, and you’re apt to get a trip to the principal’s office. Instead of picking up a hockey stick for practice after school, you’ll be picking up a brush and some suds to scrub off your ill-advised doodling.

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury College’s endowment has grown to an estimated $1.2 billion, according to David Provost, who joined the college as its executive vice president for finance and administration a year ago. And in a few years annual interest from that endowment should allow the college to better pursue goals that will directly benefit students, such as increasing financial aid and improving already well known language, environmental and international schools.

College Museum of Art acquires new 'Master' piece

The Museum of Art at Middlebury College recently acquired an elegant 17th-century still-life painting by a newly discovered woman artist who lived and worked in Rome in the mid-1600s.

Signed by Anna Stanchi in 1643 and acquired at auction by the college in 2017, the painting represents the museum’s first “Old Master” painting created by a woman. The term refers to the trained artists, or so-called “Old Masters,” who worked in Europe prior to the 1800s and belonged to an artists’ guild.
