Middlebury Police Log: Man charged with heroin possession

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Jeffrey A. Drown, 30, of Middlebury for possession of heroin, following an incident outside of the Shaw’s Supermarket on Washington Street on Feb 7. A police officer alleged seeing Drown using a hypodermic needle in his vehicle. After getting consent, authorities searched the vehicle.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Investigated a report of vandalism to multiple mailboxes on Halladay Road on Feb.6.

•  Cited Jaada R. Longmore, 22, of Middlebury, for failure to send a child to school on Feb.6.

•  Took to a detox center in Rutland, a very drunk man who had contacted police because he said he was “hearing God and having premonitions of death” on Feb. 7.

•  Found that someone had used a sheet rock knife to puncture the right-rear tire of a Middlebury police cruiser while it was parked near the department headquarters on Lucius Shaw Lane on Feb. 7.

•  Responded to a report of some spray painting on the north wall of the Vermont Coffee Company building on Exchange Street on Feb. 7.

•  Investigated a report of someone spray painting swastikas and crude images on the Kidspace equipment at Mary Hogan Elementary School on Feb. 7.

•  Responded to a hit-and-run accident involving two vehicles at the Middlebury Natural Foods Co-op property on Washington Street on Feb. 7.

•  Received a wallet that someone had dropped at the Maplefields store on North Pleasant Street on Feb. 7. Police said the wallet contained some heroin along with some credit cards and identification.

•  Were informed that someone had spray painted some of the railroad yard property off Elm Street on Feb. 8.

•  Served a no-trespass order on a woman who allegedly tried to shoplift from Kinney Drugs on Court Street on Feb. 8.

•  Cited Luke Vera, 29, of Bristol for retail theft following an incident at Kinney Drugs on Feb. 8.

•  Received a report on Feb. 8 about an elderly person allegedly being punched by his elderly partner/caregiver at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation. Police are investigating the claim.

•  Cited Brian N. Dodds, 25, of Middlebury for a criminal count of driving with a suspended license following an investigation on Jackson Lane on Feb. 8.

•  Investigated a report of a group of teens allegedly smoking marijuana near Champlain Farms on Court Street on Feb. 8. Police said the group apparently left in a vehicle headed north on Route 7.

•  Cited a juvenile for disorderly conduct in connection with a fight between students at Middlebury Union High School on Feb. 9.

•  Received a wallet that had been found by someone at the Middlebury Short Stop on Route 7 South on Feb. 9.

•  Ticketed a student for being a minor in possession of tobacco on the Champlain Valley Academy grounds at Catamount Park on Feb. 9.

•  Located a youth who had run away from MUHS on Feb. 9.

•  Responded to a noise complaint on South Main Street on Feb. 10.

•  Warned a man for being in violation of the town’s open container law as he had been walking down Route 7 South with an open whiskey bottle. Police ensured that the man dumped the contents of the bottle.

•  Responded to a report of some people locked in the Creek Road Car Wash on Creek Road on Feb. 10. Police said they got the people out of the car wash.

•  Served a no-trespass order on Feb. 10 on a person who was not wanted at Agway Farm & Garden Inc. on Exchange Street.

•  Received a report that someone had spray painted the outside of a building off Route 7 South on Feb. 10.

•  Assisted a local woman who said she had received a threatening call on Feb. 11.

•  Cited Kevin Haskins, 45, of Starksboro for unlawful trespass, stemming from an incident in the Greg’s Meat Market property on Elm Street on Feb. 11.

•  Took to a detox center in Rutland a very drunk man seen walking down Middle Road on Feb. 11.

•  Supervised the state-ordered placement of a newborn into the custody of her grandparents at Porter Hospital on Feb. 12.
