MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited David G. Kloepfer, 34, of Middlebury, for driving under the influence of alcohol, following their investigation of an accident off Lower Plains Road on Oct. 2. Police allege that Kloepfer left the accident scene to return home. Police said they measured Kloepfer’s blood-alcohol level at 0.182 percent.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

• Served a no-trespass order on a man who was acting strangely and who allegedly threw a cup of water at a worker at a Court Street business on Oct. 1.

• Responded to a reported family dispute at a Washington Street Extension residence on Oct. 1.

• Assisted other emergency responders at the scene of a car-deer accident on Route 7 south, just south if Three Mile Bridge Road on Oct. 1. There were no reported injuries to individuals in the vehicle.

• Served a no-trespass order on a local man on Oct. 2.

• Received a report that someone had stolen several items of clothing from a locker in the girls’ changing room at Middlebury Union High School on Oct. 2.

• Were informed of the theft of a wallet containing $40 and credit cards from Middlebury College’s McCardell Bicentennial Hall on Oct. 2.

• Assisted a local teen on Oct. 2 whose Facebook page had been accessed by another teen, who allegedly posted some obscene remarks. Police advised the victim to change his Facebook password and warned the alleged culprit to stop his behavior.

• Investigated what was reported as a possible sexual encounter involving a man and woman near the former Chittenden Bank building off Court Square at around 11:20 a.m. on Oct. 2. Police were told by some occupants of the nearby old courthouse that this was the third time they had witnessed the couple engaging in such activity. Police contacted the couple and warned them not to return to the location.

• Responded to a reported assault at the Counseling Service of Addison County’s Hill House on North Pleasant Street on Oct. 2. Police said a client at the facility allegedly threw a staff member down the stairs. The client was  given some counseling and will be transferred to another location, according to police.

• Ticketed a Middlebury Union High Student for being a minor in possession of tobacco off school grounds on Oct. 2.

• Warned a man on Oct. 2 to stop making harassing calls to the Middlebury Legion headquarters on Boardman Street.

• Cited Gary Lussier-Thompson, 18, of Middlebury, for allegedly starting a fire at the gazebo on the Middlebury town green on Oct. 3. Police said they responded to a scene after being told that someone lit some garbage on fire next to the Gazebo. Fortunately, the fire was quickly extinguished, though a post on the structure was charred. Police said they interviewed Lussier-Thompson at his home, where he allegedly confessed to the crime.

• Responded to a call from a Case Street(Route 116) man who told police he wanted to die by “suicide by cop” on Oct. 4. That man, George Desmarais, 57, of  5454 Case St., was ultimately killed during an approximately 30-minute exchange of gunfire with police in the woods behind him home. • Cited Mark Kevin Kennedy, 25, of Vergennes, for a criminal count of driving with a suspended license and for violating his conditions of released, on Creek Road on Oct. 4.

• Were informed that Middlebury College property off Freeman Way had been vandalized on Oct. 5.

• Warned a man found urinating off the platform at the south end of the Battell Bridge on Oct. 5.

• Received a report of someone leaving the Middlebury Village Depot on Court Street without paying for $30 in gas on Oct. 5.

• Were informed that someone has stolen a purse from a vehicle parked in The Centre parking lot of Route 7 south on Oct. 5. Police said the culprit is believed to have gotten into the vehicle through the sun roof. The purse contained a camera and a wallet, among other things.

• Received a cruelty-to-animals complaint involving a man who allegedly beat a dog that was inside his vehicle at The Centre parking lot on Oct. 6. A witness told police that the man allegedly grabbed and pinned the large dog against the vehicle door and beat the animal — while a young child was seated in the back seat. The man put the dog  back in the vehicle and started walking to the shopping center but stopped and returned to beat the dog again when he saw that it had jumped into the back seat with the child, according to the witness. Police said the witness has provided them with a license plate number, and they will try to get surveillance tape from The Centre managers in an effort to locate the man.

• Responded to a domestic dispute at a Rogers Road residence on Oct. 6.

• Assisted a local woman who said she was harassed by her ex-boyfriend while in McDonald’s Restaurant on Oct. 7. Police they gave the woman directions on how to file for a no-trespass order on her ex-boyfriend.
