ADDISON COUNTY — Late on the evening of Tuesday, Jan. 15, Vermont State Police were called to a home on Ethan Allen Highway in New Haven for a report of an assault.

After investigating, troopers arrested Timothy J. Williams, 24, of New Haven and cited him for simple assault, second-degree aggravated domestic assault and unlawful restraint in the second degree against two individuals at the residence. Police lodged Williams at Chittenden County Correctional Center for lack of $1,000 bail.

Separately, state police from the New Haven and Royalton barracks on Saturday, Jan. 18, at approximately 9:15 p.m. responded to a report of a one-vehicle rollover with injuries on Route 125 near the Middlebury Snow Bowl ski area in Hancock.

On arrival, troopers had to break the windshield and rear window to extricate the driver, who was trapped upside down inside the truck. Police said they determined that the driver, whom they identified as 65-year-old Chester Baxter of Hancock, was under the influence of alcohol and they cited him for driving under the influence.

Baxter was not injured and refused medical attention.

Meanwhile, state police received a flurry of reports over this past weekend of burglaries at homes in lakefront communities.

The first burglary occurred sometime between 2 and 6:15 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 18, on Holstein Road in Bridport. Forced entry was gained through a first-floor window. Jewelry and antiques were reported stolen. Jewelry was also reported stolen after someone forced entry into a Lake Road home in Panton that day.

That same day, at an unknown time, a residence on Mountain Road in Addison was vandalized.

Troopers then received a report of a burglary at a Mountain Road home in Addison that occurred at an unknown time between Friday the 18th and noon on Sunday the 20th. Items taken included jewelry and electronics.

Anyone with information regarding any of these incidents is asked to contact the VSP at 802-388-4919 or submit an anonymous tip online at www.vtips.info or by texting “CRIMES” to keyword: VTIPS.

Troopers were called to several crashes attributed to the snow and wet driving conditions on Wednesday, Jan. 16:

•  At 2:45 p.m. Trooper Hogan responded to a traffic accident on a snowy and wet Route 7 in New Haven. Police said two vehicles were southbound when Cathleen Teel, 56, of New Haven slowed the 2006 Buick she was driving in the lead and activated her directional signal to turn left into a driveway. Police said Annette Adams, 54, of New Haven was following Teel’s car and was unable to stop in time and so collided with the back end of the Buick. Adams’ 1997 Chevy Prizm sustained front-end and hood damage, but no one was injured.

•  Later that afternoon at around 3:20 p.m. Hogan responded to a one-car accident in which Christine Fraioli, 62, of Lincoln was eastbound in a 2006 BMW X3 on West River Road when, she told police, her right side tires got caught in slush on the side of the road. She said she tried steering out of the slush but she was pulled off the right side of the road and went down an embankment. The BMW was damaged on its left and right sides, roof and hood, but Fraioli was not injured.

•  Only 10 minutes later Trooper Neary responded to a two-vehicle fender bender on Big Hollow Road in Starksboro. Police reported that a Toyota minivan operated by Bridgette E. Sheppard, 28, of Starksboro was unable to stop in time to avoid a 2002 International school bus operated by Joye Garrow, 35, of New Haven. Sheppard’s vehicle sustained moderate to heavy front-end damage and was towed from the scene. The school bus sustained minor rear-end damage and was driven away. Road conditions appeared to be a factor in this crash.

In other recent activity, troopers:

•  On Jan. 15 at 6:37 p.m. stopped a car driven by Edward Wilford, 28, of Brandon on Lower Bullock Road in Leicester for defective equipment. Police cited Wilford for driving with a criminally suspended license.

•  On Jan. 15 at 11:26 p.m. arrested Paul Burroughs, 46, of Wallingford and cited him for driving with excessive speed and for reckless endangerment. Police said Burroughs was driving at more than 30 mph over the posted speed limit of 50 mph on Route 7 in Salisbury and there were four juveniles, under the age of 18, in the vehicle with him.

•  On Jan. 17 at 8:05 p.m. responded to a one-car crash on Route 22A in Addison. Police said Holly M. Dillon, 27, of Addison was driving a 2005 Pontiac G6 southbound, lost control of the vehicle and traveled off the west side of the road. The Pontiac collided with two separate mailboxes and posts, traveled back across both lanes of Route 22A, off the east side of the road, and collided with a metal fence, police said. There were no injuries.

When troopers arrived on scene, they said Dillon had left the scene. They located her on Jan. 20 and charged her with negligent driving and leaving the scene of a collision. Troopers noted that they were assisted at the scene by the Addison Fire Department.

•  On Jan. 18 at 1:40 p.m. responded to a one-car accident on Route 7 in Ferrisburgh, where witnesses said 84-year-old Lucinda Gregory of Dorset was northbound when the vehicle gradually veered off the road and struck a utility pole. First responders from the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad and Ferrisburgh Fire Department quickly responded to the scene and extracted Gregory from the car, which was a total loss, and transported her to Porter Hospital, where she was treated and released. Gregory told police she was feeling tired and may have fallen asleep.

•  On Jan. 18 received a report of a burglary at a home on Weybridge Street in Weybridge. The homeowner reported several antique keepsakes (family jewelry) and a Yamaha motorcycle were stolen. The motorcycle was later found by a family member, abandoned in close proximity to the residence. Anyone with information is asked to contact Trooper Kaitlyn Armstrong at 802-388-4919.

•  On Jan. 20 at midnight stopped a car driven by Michaela M. Vaughan, 25, of Whiting, on Route 30 in Cornwall for speeding. Police cited her for driving under the influence of alcohol, second offense. Police said her blood alcohol content tested at three times the legal limit of 0.08 percent.

•  On Jan. 20 at 6:34 p.m. stopped a car driven by Michael S. Horner, 28, of Lincoln on West River Road in Lincoln. Troopers cited Horner for driving under the influence of alcohol, second offense.

•  On Jan. 20  responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Monkton Road and Route 7 in Ferrisburgh. Police said their investigation suggests that 74-year-old Alice Clapper of Addison, driving a Chrysler sedan, failed to yield the right of way and her car made contact with the side panel of the Ford truck driven by Drew Gordon, 63, of Vergennes. No injuries were reported and both vehicles were driven home with slight body damage.

•  On Jan. 21 at nearly 9 p.m. responded to a crash on snow-covered Route 22A in Orwell. Police said Allison Kalnik, 22, of Rhinebeck, N.Y., lost control of the Saab hatchback she was driving, and it slid off the road and overturned in a field. Police considered the car a total loss. The driver and her passenger did not require medical attention. Police issued Kalnik a written warning  for driving too fast for conditions.

•  On Jan. 22 at 7:56 a.m. responded to a one-car crash on Monkton Road in Ferrisburgh. Police said Jennifer Bechthold, 24, of Middlebury was eastbound when she lost control of the Toyota Rav 4 on the snow- and slush-covered road and went off the south side of Monkton Road and struck an embankment. She was transported to Porter Hospital for evaluation of minor neck pain.
