VERGENNES — Vergennes police on July 31 arrested a city man for the second time in less than a week on larceny charges, and this time he was jailed.

Police said Tyler Flynn, 21, of Vergennes was lodged at the Chittenden County Correctional Center for lack of $10,000 cash bail after allegedly stealing a laptop computer from a second street home and selling it to a Burlington store.

Flynn, who five days before was cited for stealing copper wire and then released with conditions, was cited for petit larceny and violating the conditions of his earlier release.

Also last week, Vergennes police cited Rory H. Thompson, 31, of Vergennes on three counts of forging checks that he had allegedly stolen from his parents, one count of petit larceny for the alleged theft of a box of checks, and one count of identity theft, for applying for and receiving a credit card in his father’s name. Police said additional charges involving others are possible in this case.

In other activity between July 29 and Aug. 4, Vergennes police:

•On July 29 twice responded to Sunset Drive to calm neighbors arguing about a drainage pipe project that affected both of their properties.

•On July 29 checked a complaint that residents were cutting branches upstream of the falls and city docks and letting them fall in the river, causing problems; police, however, could not determine the source of the issue.

•On July 29 responded to a dispute between a South Maple Street resident and a motorist about speeding, and afterward stepped up speed enforcement in the area.

•On July 29 with the help of South Burlington police cited James Lash, 57, of South Burlington for domestic assault. Police said a Vergennes woman came into the station and alleged she had been assaulted at the Agency of Transportation park-and-ride lot when she informed Cash she was breaking up with him. City police called South Burlington police, who brought Cash to Vergennes to be processed.

•On July 30 attended a status conference about a troubled student at the Addison Northwest Supervisory Union office on Green Street.

•On July 30 cited Michael LaFountain, 35, of Bridport for driving with a suspended license.

•On July 30 called the U.S. Border Patrol to handle several illegal immigrants, an action taken after one of several occupants of a vehicle towing a trailer full of scrap metal on West Main Street approached police and asked them if they knew where the metal could be sold. Police said there was an open container of beer in the vehicle, not enough seats for the occupants, and it was being driven by an unlicensed 16-year-old operator.

•On July 30 took a report that gas had been stolen from a Macdonough Drive home.

•On July 30 took a report from a North Green Street resident about an earlier theft of prescription drugs from an apartment.

•On Aug. 2 sent the department Drug Recognition Expert to help Milton police.

•On Aug. 2 took a drunken man from a Main Street residence to the Act 1 detoxification facility in Burlington.

•On Aug. 2 began looking into the theft of a cell phone from Kinney Drug Store.
