VERGENNES — Three cases of driving under the influence, two allegations of assaults at Northlands Job Corps, and several instances of drivers operating motor vehicles with suspended licenses kept Vergennes police busy between April 30 and May 4.

In that seven-day span, Vergennes police:

•  On April 28 began an investigation after being told a wallet, cash and an iPod had been taken from a Country Commons home, but on May 2 were told the items had been anonymously returned.

•  On April 28 investigated an assault at Northlands Job Corps and after interviewing both people involved and witnesses determined it was a fight and cited Mecca Ross, 17, and Andrew Walker, 20, for disturbing the peace by mutual affray.

•  On April 28 on South Maple Street and on April 30 on Panton Road checked reports of suspicious persons and learned they were representatives of VPIRG conducting a survey.

•  On April 28 helped the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad at a West Main Street medical call.

•  On April 29 cited Alan McGuire, 31, of Essex for driving with a criminally suspended license and speeding following a Main Street traffic stop.

•  On April 29 helped the Addison County state’s attorney’s office conduct a background investigation.

•  On April 30 took a Panton resident to Porter Hospital to be screened for DUI-drugs after stopping his car following an alert from VARS personnel that the man had been driving for three miles with a flat tire.

•  On April 30 checked out a report of a suspicious car on North Green Street and discovered it was disabled and its owners planned to move it.

•  On April 30 helped VARS at an Armory Lane medical call.

•  On May 1 in a Main Street parking lot cited Harold Sheldon, 57, of Ferrisburgh for possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a civilly suspended license, driving with plates not assigned to a vehicle, and driving an unregistered vehicle.

•  On May 1 received a tip about illegal drug activity in the area.

•  On May 1 helped the Department of Motor Vehicles by bringing the department canine to search a tractor-trailer truck for drugs, a search that proved to be negative.

•  On May 1 began investigation of an alleged lewd and lascivious offense at Northlands.

•  On May 2 helped Vermont State Police by responding to an accident at the junction of Route 7 and Middlebrook Road in Waltham.

•  On May 2 dealt with a fender-bender in a Main Street parking lot and a minor two-car accident on North Main Street.

•  On May 2 helped motorists get into two locked cars, at a Main Street apartment building and at Shaw’s Supermarket.

•  On May 2 cited Kyle Maloney, 31, of Bennington for driving with a civilly suspended license and without insurance — citations issued at a Main Street traffic stop.

•  On May 2 dealt with a Hillside Acres Apartments noise complaint.

•  On May 2 issued civil tickets to two men for possessing small amounts of marijuana after responding to North Green Street, where a car had rolled off a property and onto the roadway.

•  On May 3 ticketed a driver for operating an unregistered vehicle and ordered it towed after stopping it near City Hall.

•  On May 3 cited Michele Gadhue, 40, of Middlebury for DUI after stopping the car she was driving on New Haven Road because its owner’s license had been criminally suspended.

•  On May 3 responded to a Walker Avenue medical emergency.
