MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police investigated a report on May 27 that someone had recently attempted to tip over the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary that is located between the St. Mary’s rectory and the church. Police said that fortunately no damage was done to the statue and they were able to reset it on its stand.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Responded to a report of cows that had wandered onto Munger Street on May 26. Police contacted the farmer, who moved the cows into a different pasture.

•  Responded to a noise complaint in the Valley View neighborhood on May 26.

•  Were informed of the alleged theft of an Xbox 360 controller from an apartment on North Pleasant Street on May 26.

•  Investigated a report of a missing man on the Trail Around Middlebury near the Means Woods pull-off on May 27. The man was located about a half mile into the woods, according to police, who added he was taken to Porter Hospital for medical issues. Middlebury Fire Department personnel assisted with the search and with getting the man back to the parking area from the woods.

•  Received a report on May 27 about a “disoriented” man at storage units off McIntyre Lane. Police said the man was taken to Porter Hospital.

•  Responded to a report of money clip and cash and credit cards taken from a truck that was parked in the County Tire parking lot on May 27.

•  Were informed that two green hanging flower baskets had been taken from the porch of Otter Creek Child Center on May 27.

•  Responded to a report of a fight between two Middlebury Union Middle School students on May 27.

•  Were informed of the theft of an antique stone planter (in the shape of a vase) from the steps of the Henry Sheldon Museum of Vermont History on Park Street on May 27.

•  Received a report that a Winchester 12-gauge shotgun had been taken from a North Pleasant Street apartment on May 27.

•  Responded to a report of some non-residents of a Court Street apartment hanging out in the hallway on May 27. Police said they asked two people to leave the premises.

•  Investigated a truancy complaint at a local school on May 28.

•  Deployed a Speed Sentry — a sign that flashes the speed of vehicles on the road — on South Ridge Drive on May 28.

•  Responded to a noise complaint in the Bakery Lane area on May 29.

•  Received a report about an alleged drug deal taking place off Maple Street on May 29.

•  Were informed that someone had slashed a screen and broken a window at MUMS on May 29.

•  Responded to a report of someone allegedly entering the Lang Associates business on Court Street and scattering files on May 29.

•  Investigated a report of a Middlebury Union High School student sending an obscene text message on May 29.

•  Received a complaint about early morning truck noise coming from the Sand Hill Bridge construction site in East Middlebury on May 29.

•  Responded to a report of a possible vehicle-bike collision on Cross Street on May 30. Police learned the cyclist had fallen off his bike, and had refused rescue services.

•  Arrested Michelle F. Cousino, 25, of New Haven for driving with a criminally suspended license and violating her court-ordered conditions of release on Court Street Extension on May 30.

•  Received a report that someone had kicked out a window at the Addison Central Teens center at the Middlebury municipal building on May 30.

•  Were informed of a shoplifting incident at Kinney Drugs on Court Street on May 30. Police said the incident was caught on store surveillance tape, and police are looking to cite the suspect.

•  Received a report about the possible theft of money through a Main Street ATM on May 30.

•  Assisted a U.S. marshal in trying to locate a male suspect in Middlebury on May 30.

•  Received into custody an unmanageable juvenile on May 30. Counseling Service of Addison County officials assisted in the case.

•  Investigated a report of a vehicle that had been seen striking the concrete barrier in front of Two Brothers Tavern on Main Street at around 8 p.m. on May 31, then leaving. That same vehicle was allegedly seen striking a curb at Porter Hospital later that evening, according to police. Police said they found the driver at Porter Hospital and continue to investigate why he was driving erratically.

•  Investigated a report on May 31 of a two people sitting in a black vehicle in the Means Woods pull-off with their faces “painted like clowns.” One of them ran into the woods, according to a witness. Police said the vehicle had left upon their arrival.

•  Investigated a domestic dispute between two sisters on Seminary Street Extension on May 31.

•  Investigated a report of a dog being hit by a car in the Lower Plains Road area on June 1.

•  Responded to a report on June 1 of a man who had fallen down a flight of stairs at a Seminary Street building and had sustained an injury. Police were unable to find the man.

•  Received a report of some downed telephone lines on Court Street on June 1. Police said Comcast was informed about the issue.

•  Were informed of a “suspicious older male” approaching women for help with his broken-down car on June 1.

•  Responded to a report of a family fight at a Case Street residence on June 1. Police spoke with both parties, one of whom left the home for the evening.

•  Responded to a report of a drug overdose at a local residence on June 2. Police said Middlebury Regional EMS took the patient to Porter Hospital.
