MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police are seeking the public’s help in finding those responsible for a rash of vehicle break-ins reported in various parts of town on Monday, Aug. 18.

Police said the culprit(s) primarily targeted unlocked vehicles, with incidents reported in the Rogers Road, Washington Street Extension, Monroe Street, Birchard Park, Buttolph Drive, Danyow Drive, Fairview Circle and Stonegate Drive neighborhoods. The culprit(s) allegedly stole cash, medicine and various personal items from the vehicles, according to police.

Anyone with information about the break-in spree should call Middlebury police at 388-3191. And residents should be careful to lock their vehicle doors and make sure there are no valuables visible to those who might be looking through the windows.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Investigated a report of some juveniles skateboarding in traffic in Court Square on Aug. 11. Police were unable to locate the youths.

•  Responded to an illegal dumping complaint in the College Street area on Aug. 11.

•  Explained the park closing ordinance to two homeless people who wanted to stay in the gazebo into the evening of Aug. 12.

•  Served a temporary restraining order on a local man on Aug. 12.

•  Were informed that someone had allegedly stolen some medicine from a Valley View home on Aug. 12.

•  Assisted a family with an out-of-control juvenile in the Forest Ridge Road area on Aug. 12.

•  Responded to a noise complaint at a Heritage Circle residence on Aug. 12.

•  Investigated a report of a family fight at a Seminary Street residence on Aug. 13.

•  Assisted the Addison County Unit for Special Investigations with a search warrant in Monkton on Aug. 13.

•  Assisted Middlebury Regional EMS in dealing with a drunken patient on Case Street on Aug. 14.

•  Removed a deer that had been struck by a vehicle on Route 7 North on Aug. 14.

•  Responded to a report of someone breaking a window at the Yogurt City business on Main Street on Aug. 15. Police determined the broken window to have been an accident, and the family of the juvenile responsible will make restitution, according to police.

•  Cited Thomas J. Saunders, 61, of Middlebury for driving under the influence, following a minor accident on Seymour Street on Aug. 15.

•  Investigated a report of someone taking a driver’s license and registration from a vehicle parked at a Twin Circles residence on Aug. 15.

•  Responded to reports of a possible gunshot followed by a woman’s scream in the Washington Street Extension area on Aug. 15. Police said the noise was caused by a blown electrical transformer; they were unable to find the source of the alleged scream.

•  Assisted Middlebury Regional EMS with a sick patient at The Commons apartments on Buttolph Drive on Aug. 16.

•  Assisted a Weybridge Street homeowner who had an unwanted guest on Aug. 16.

•  Helped a local woman on Aug. 16 who claimed someone had used her identity to file false tax returns.

•  Cited Marlena Laws, 21, of Vergennes for driving under the influence, following a stop on Weybridge Road on Aug. 17.

•  Cited Brian Hathaway, 26, of Rutland and Grover Pangburn, 39, of Hannacroix, N.Y., with simple assault, following an alleged incident in the Seymour Street area on Aug. 18.
