BRISTOL — On the evening of Saturday, Feb. 18, Bristol police arrested Dale Alice Vanleuven, 56, of Bristol and cited her for driving under the influence on Feb. 18.

At 6:57 p.m. an officer observed a traffic violation on Main Street and stopped the vehicle. The officer noted signs of impairment, administered field sobriety exercises and established probable cause to support an arrest for driving under the influence of alcohol. A preliminary roadside breath test at 7:12 p.m. showed a blood alcohol content of 0.167 percent; the legal limit for driving is 0.08.

Bristol police report that during processing a breath test at 8:36 p.m. showed Vanleuven’s blood alcohol content was 0.140 percent. Vanleuven was released with a citation to answer the DUI charge in Addison Superior Court, criminal division, on March 6.

Between Feb. 13 and 19, Bristol police conducted five town-contracted traffic patrols, covering Burpee, Hewitt and Monkton roads and on Route 16 in the area of O’Connor Drive. Police issued one ticket for unsafe starting of a parked vehicle, together with three warnings for speeding, one warning for operating without a license and one warning for a stop sign violation.

Also during that period, officers conducted five security checks at Mount Abraham Union High School. On Feb. 13, an officer found the lock on the front gate damaged; otherwise, the building and grounds were found to be in order.

In other activity from Feb. 13 through 19, Bristol police:

•  Responded to a Lauritsen Lane residence on Feb. 13 for a man who had fallen out of bed and crawled to the phone to call 911. Police gained access to the locked residence, and the man was transported to Porter Hospital by the Bristol Rescue Squad.

•  Assisted a man having a medical issue at a Maple Street residence on Feb. 13. The Bristol officer helped Bristol rescue load the man onto the ambulance for transport to Porter.

•  Responded to MAUHS, where a noncompliant 15-year-old student was transported home on Feb. 14. School staff had made multiple unsuccessful efforts to help the juvenile comply with instructions and return to class. Court action is pending on this juvenile.

•  Worked out of the office at Bristol Elementary School on Feb. 14, when the officer visited with students and staff passing to and from lunch and recess.

•  Looked for a white dog reported wandering near Bristol Elementary on Feb. 14. Police learned the owner had claimed the dog.

•  Worked out of Bristol Elementary office on Feb. 15; the officer visited with students and staff and participated in a jump rope for health activity in the school gymnasium.

•  Responded to south Route 116 to intercept a vehicle involved in a motor vehicle incident on River Road on Feb. 15. A subject reportedly evaded the repossession of his vehicle, nearly ran over the employee of the repossession company and fled the area.

•  Investigated a report on Feb. 15 of damage to a truck.

•  Received a report from MAUHS on Feb. 16 of a student who had left school after being noncompliant. As a result of this incident and several previous incidents involving this student, an affidavit was forwarded to the State’s Attorney’s Office seeking the involvement of the Department for Children and Families.

•  Met with MAUHS staff and other service providers on Feb. 16 to work with the family of a student regarding truancy issues. A plan was developed to improve attendance. No immediate police action needed.

•  Conducted foot patrol on Main Street, meeting with business owners and managers to update security contact information, on Feb. 16.

•  Completed a one-hour online class for cell phone examinations on Feb. 17.

•  Worked out of the office at Bristol Elementary on Feb. 17.

•  Conducted foot patrol and checked downtown businesses on Feb. 17.

•  Responded on Feb. 18 to a Mountain Street residence, where two parties were involved in a dispute over parking at a multifamily residence. Police met with the parties and referred both to their landlord to resolve the issue.

•  Investigated footprints found in the snow leading from a nearby vacant home to a vehicle on the complainant’s Pine Street property. Police determined that the tracks were made by a large dog. The BPD checked the vacant home and secured it after finding a rear door unlocked.

•  Conducted foot patrol on Main Street on Feb. 18.

•  Provided back up for Vermont State Police conducting a field sobriety test at a traffic stop on Monkton Road at the intersection of Hardscrabble Road on Feb. 19. The officer stood by as troopers investigated and arrested a male driver for allegedly driving under the influence of drugs. The Bristol officer remained with the vehicle and passenger until the wrecker service arrived.

•  Conducted foot patrol on Main Street and in the town park on Feb. 19.

•  Checked police district businesses on Feb. 19.
