MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police and cleanup crews were kept busy on Friday, May 5, contending with damage caused by a powerful, windy storm.

They directed traffic while power while crews removed some downed power lines on East Main Street. They also responded to a report of a downed tree near the intersection of Case Street and Cady Road that day. Police said a related storm had also damaged some power lines at the same location.

Officers also came upon a tree that had fallen across Case Street and had struck a vehicle. Police said no one was injured in that mishap.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Provided traffic control while crews removed a downed tree on Case Street on May 1.

•  Responded to a dog-related noise complaint on Newton Lane on May 1.

•  Helped Porter Hospital officials on May 2 with a man who had been discharged from care, but who was refusing to leave. Police took the man to the local warming shelter.

•  Responded to a report of a vehicle leaving the scene of an accident on Charles Avenue on May 2.

•  Helped Porter Hospital Emergency Department staff with an out-of-control patient on May 3.

•  Responded, with Middlebury Regional EMS officials, to a report of an out-of-control student at the Champlain Valley Academy on May 3. Police said the youth was taken to Porter Hospital.

•  Investigated a report of a man suspiciously watching children at the Middlebury Recreation Park on May 3. Police said the man was watching kids play tennis.

•  Checked on a man who had posted a suicide-related message on Facebook on May 4. Police said the man was OK and agreed to receive counseling.

•  Responded to a report of a noisy tenant in a North Pleasant Street apartment on May 4.

•  Investigated a report about someone allegedly walking in the middle of South Street on May 4. Police said they found no such person.

•  Assisted Porter Hospital officials with a patient on May 4.

•  Received a complaint about a loud party in the Grist Mill Road area at around 11 p.m. on May 5.

•  Investigated a report of eight young skateboarders allegedly dumping trash cans and being loud on Academy and South Main streets on May 5.  Officers searched the area and but were unable to locate any skateboarders or any damage.

•  Investigated a noise complaint in the Sugarwood Court area on May 6.

•  Responded to a water main break in the Woodbridge Lane area on May 6.

•  Were asked to check the welfare of a man who had been walking on Route 7 North on May 6.

•  Received a report on May 7 that a man had left Shaw’s Supermarket on Washington Street with a cart-full of items. Police continue to investigate the matter.

•  Responded to a domestic disturbance at a North Forty Lane residence on May 7. Police said some people were arguing over some recent posts on social media.

•  Responded to a report about a man creating a disturbance at the John Graham Court apartments on May 8. Police said the man had been banging on an apartment door.
