BRISTOL — Bristol police made three arrests this past week and issued charges including petit larceny, violating conditions of release and aggravated domestic assault.

On July 21, Bristol police received a theft complaint from a Main Street business. Police said their investigation showed that Jamie Leslie Billings, 43, of Saint Johnsbury had removed U.S. currency from the wallet of another patron while at the business. The incident was captured on camera. The investigating officer located Billings and cited Billings into Addison Superior Court, criminal division, to answer the charge of petit larceny on Sept. 11.

Separately on July 21, Bristol police cite Peter David Thibodeau, 36, of Bristol for violating conditions of release. An officer had contacted Thibodeau earlier in the day and determined that he had consumed alcohol in violation of court-ordered conditions related to pending criminal cases before the Addison Superior Court.

And on July 22, Bristol police arrested Daren Austin, 36, of Bristol and cited him for second-degree aggravated domestic assault, being a violent criminal in possession of a firearm, and an offense committed in the presence of a child.

Earlier that day, Bristol police responded to a reported family fight at a Taylor Avenue residence. Police said their investigation showed that Austin had placed a household member in fear of imminent serious bodily injury or death, with said offense occurring in the presence of a child. Because Austin had a previous domestic assault conviction, the incident was enhanced to second-degree aggravated domestic assault.

Additional investigation showed that Austin, a person prohibited from possessing firearms, possessed a firearm at the residence, police alleged. The firearm was not used in the domestic assault.

Austin was lodged at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility for lack of $25,000 bail.

Bristol Police Lt. Bruce Nason also issued a log for the previous week’s activity.

Between July 10 and 16, Bristol police conducted foot patrols 12 times in various neighborhoods, including on Main, Church, Garfield and Mountain streets and in the town park, including during the July 12 concert. Officers also twice completed town-contracted patrols on Route 116 and Lincoln Road, during which one speeding ticket and one warning were issued; checked the property of a district resident while they are out of town; checked security at Mount Abraham Union High School twice; checked a West Street business; and completed a Vehicle Inspection Number inspection for district resident; and took fingerprints for a district residence related to employment.

The officer made contact with the complainant and witnessed the subject masturbating while seated nude on a rock at the riverbank. The officer contacted the subject and identified him. Vermont State Police subsequently took the man into custody without incident.
