ADDISON COUNTY — Gregory West wasn’t the only person in Addison County charged by Vermont State Police last week with driving while intoxicated, but he was the only one who was also charged for driving faster than 100 miles per hour.

On July 21 at approximately 6:27 p.m. a trooper saw a vehicle traveling northbound on Route 7 in Waltham at a high rate of speed. A radar unit recorded the vehicle was traveling at 102 mph in a posted 50 mph zone.

The trooper stopped the vehicle and reported that the driver, identified as 25-year-old Gregory West of Bristol, admitted to speeding. While speaking with West, the trooper also detected signs of impairment.

West was screened for driving under the influence, arrested and transported to the New Haven state police barracks for processing. Police released West after citing him for DUI and speeding. He is scheduled to answer the charges in Addison Superior Court, criminal division, on Aug. 7.

Also cited for DUI in the past week were Erik Hausler, Leonard A. Desjadon and Christopher J. Thompson. A fourth driver, Joseph Marszalkowski, was not cited for DUI, but state police said he might be after they complete their investigation.

Here are reports on those four incidents:

•  On July 18 at approximately 6:47 p.m. state police stopped a motor vehicle on Four Winds Road in Ferrisburgh after observing a traffic violation. After detecting signs of impairment, the trooper screened Erik Hausler, 38, of Ferrisburgh for DUI, took him to the barracks and cited him for DUI, first offense.

•  On July 20 at approximately 8:13 p.m. a trooper stopped a motor vehicle for a violation on Westford-Milton Road in Westford. Police report that the driver provided a false name, but investigation showed that he was Joseph Marszalkowski, 26, of Panton. The officer reported that Marszalkowski showed signs of impairment, so he was taken in to custody, processed and released with a citation for providing false information to police to implicate another. The trooper reported that DUI charges are pending further investigation.

•  On July 22 at a few minutes past midnight a state trooper stopped a motor vehicle on Route 116 in Bristol after observing several traffic infractions. After identifying the driver as Leonard A. Desjadon, 29, of Middlebury, the officer reports that he discovered Desjadon was driving while under the influence of alcohol. Desjadon was cited for DUI.

•  On July 22 at approximately 4:14 a.m. state police responded to a single-vehicle crash that had taken place earlier that morning near the intersection of Town Line Road and Grandey Road in Addison. Police report that a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by Christopher J. Thompson, 24, of Bridport left the roadway while travelling westbound on Town Line Road and struck a telephone pole. Police said they caught up with Thompson at Porter Hospital in Middlebury, where he was receiving treatment for cuts and other minor injuries. Police took Thompson into custody and transported him to the New Haven barracks for processing. They found out there was warrant for his arrest, so they lodged him at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility for lack of $1,000 bail and also cited him for DUI and leaving the scene of an accident.

In the only other Vermont State Police report during this period, a Bristol man was stopped while driving but it was not for driving under the influence. On July 22 at a little after 7 p.m. a trooper stopped a vehicle for a moving violation on Route 2A in St. George and cited the driver, identified as 20-year-old Asher McCauley of Bristol, for driving with a criminally suspended license and violating a court-ordered condition not to drive. Police lodged McCauley at the Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility for lack of $500 bail.
