MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Christopher Fitzpatrick, 27, of Middlebury for first-degree aggravated domestic assault and driving under the influence, after responding to a Sept. 18report of a couple arguing near a vehicle on Seymour Street.

Police said they measured Fitzpatrick’s blood-alcohol content at 0.174 percent; the legal limit for driving is 0.08. Police said they initially released Fitzpatrick into the custody of a family member, but later ended up taking him to the Grace House in Rutland after the family member called to say they couldn’t control him.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Got help for a local man experiencing mental health problems on Sept. 18. Police said the man had been stopping traffic at the intersection of High and Seminary streets, warning drivers of a storm front.

•  Responded to a barking dog complaint in the Forest Ridge Drive area on Sept. 18.

•  Investigated a report on Sept. 19 of someone allegedly screaming on a portion of the Trail Around Middlebury between Deerfield Lane and Route 7 South. Police found no one in the area.

•  Responded to a report of a vehicle leaving the scene of an accident on Washington Street on Sept. 19.

•  Issued court diversion paperwork to a youth in possession of marijuana at Middlebury Union High School on Sept. 19.

•  Assisted firefighters at the scene of a fire off Water Street on Sept. 19.

•  Served a temporary restraining order on a local person on Court Street Extension on Sept. 20.

•  Helped the Vermont Department for Children & Families with a youth in their custody on Sept. 20.

•  Responded to a report of a barking dog in the Maecliff Court neighborhood on Sept. 20.

•  Located the parents of a child who had become separated from another family member while in the downtown on Sept. 21.

•  Responded to a report of a vehicle leaving the scene of an accident on Washington Street on Sept. 21.

•  Investigated a fraud complaint on Sept. 22 involving a check written on the account of a local business.

•  Located — thanks in part to Middlebury PD’s new, four-legged recruit — a mental health patient who had left Porter Hospital’s emergency room prematurely on Sept. 23. Middlebury police Officer Bill Austin and his K-9 Neila found the patient a short distance from the hospital, according to authorities. Neila is a puppy currently enrolled in basic training at the Vermont Police Academy.

•  Dealt with a very intoxicated man who had been denied admission into Two Brothers Tavern on Sept. 23. Police said the man was turned over to a sober person.

•  Responded to a report about an intoxicated woman who was thinking about driving her vehicle from a Bakery Lane location on Sept. 24. Police ensured the woman got a ride from a sober person.

•  Were informed of the theft of some clothing from a Jayne Court apartment on Sept. 24.

•  Issued court diversion paperwork on Sept. 24 to a person for underage drinking on Short Shannon Street, where police had been asked to investigate a complaint about loud music and people drinking and swearing.

•  Received a report about gunshots in the Gorham Lane area on Sept. 24. Police said hunters were in the area.

•  Helped Middlebury College Public Safety locate a student on campus on Sept. 24.
