ADDISON COUNTY — On Sunday, Oct. 1, officers from the Middlebury Police Department and Vermont State Police were told to be on the lookout for a vehicle that was reported to have an intoxicated or impaired driver on Route 7 driving northward from Brandon.

At approximately 6 p.m. police located the vehicle on Route 116 in Middlebury, near the intersection of Case Street and East Main Street, where they stopped it.

Police screened the driver, identified as 34-year-old Kyle Forrest of Shelburne, for driving under the influence and arrested him. Forrest was processed at the New Haven state police barracks, cited for DUI and driving with a criminally suspended license, and released.

In other recent activity, Vermont State Police troopers:

•  On Sept. 27 at 10 a.m. troopers from the Rutland Barracks responded to a tip on the location of a wanted person in Wallingford. State police located Kenneth Paulus, 40, of Brandon and learned that he had an outstanding arrest warrant for having failed to appear for a scheduled court hearing. They took Paulus into custody and took him to court to answer the charges. Bail was set at $10,000.

•  On Sept. 27 at approximately 6:20 p.m. saw a vehicle on Route 125 in Bridport driven by a person known to have a criminally suspended license.  The trooper stopped the car and cited Jacob Burmania, 22, of Vergennes for driving with a criminally suspended license.

•  On Wednesday, Sept. 27, at approximately 9:30 p.m., responded with rescue services to a one-car crash near the intersection of Route 116 South and River Road in Bristol. Police said that 27-year-old Taylor Ryan of Middlebury was driving his 1996 Subaru Legacy south on Route 116 when he sideswiped a guardrail, crossed the centerline of the road and struck another guardrail, causing substantial damage to the vehicle as well as the guardrails.

While interacting with Ryan, troopers observed signs of impairment. Ryan offered to perform standardized field sobriety exercises and was subsequently arrested for suspicion of DUI. Police took him to the New Haven barracks for processing and cited him for DUI.

 Ryan refused medical attention.

•  On Sept. 28 at around 8:30 a.m. troopers were dispatched to the same general area to respond to another one-car crash. Police report that a Bristol 17-year-old was driving a Nissan Maxima northbound on Route 116 near the intersection of River Road when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole, displacing it and causing significant front-end damage to the vehicle. The vehicle came to rest in a nearby cornfield.

Route 116 was closed for several hours as Green Mountain Power and Champlain Valley Telecomm worked to restore the utility pole. The Maxima was judged to be a total loss.

State police were assisted by Bristol police, fire and rescue personnel; the New Haven Fire Department; and the Addison County Sheriff’s Department. Anyone with information regarding the motor vehicle crash is asked to contact the New Haven barracks at 802-388-4919. Issuance of a traffic ticket is pending.

• On Sept. 30 at just after 6 p.m. responded to a single-vehicle collision with injuries at the intersection of Mt. Independence Road and Route 73 in Orwell. Police report that Jeffrey P. Gilpatric, 70, of Gray, Maine, was driving a Piaggio MP3 500 motor scooter eastbound on Mt. Independence Road when he lost control of his vehicle and traveled off the roadway. Gilpatric suffered a broken right shoulder, left upper arm and right clavicle. He was treated at Porter Hospital. A ticket is pending.

•  On Oct. 2, after having received numerous complaints of marijuana use by John Davignon, 37, of Bristol in the Woodland Apartments, at 6 p.m. executed a search warrant on the apartment that Davignon occupied. State police seized a large quantity of processed marijuana and related drug paraphernalia from Davignon’s apartment, arrested Davignon and cited him for possession of marijuana.

•  On Oct. 2 at 9:48 p.m. received a report from a family member that Robert Ingham, 45, of Hancock was missing. Ingham was last seen in Middlebury at approximately 4 p.m. on Monday and did not return home to Hancock that in the evening. Ingham was reported to be driving his silver 2005 Subaru Outback station wagon bearing Vermont license plate HCD801. He is described to be approximately 5-foot-11-inches tall, 180 pounds with black hair and blue eyes. Anyone who sees him or has information on Ingham’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Vermont State Police Royalton Barracks at 802-234-9933.
