Bristol Police Log: Police find road-construction equipment tampered with

BRISTOL — On Nov. 23, Bristol police officers on a routine patrol found a piece of road-construction equipment that appeared to have been tampered with, in the pull-off at the Lord’s Prayer Rock on Route 116.

It appeared that someone had tried to start the equipment, and its lights were activated. Police removed the ignition key and secured the equipment.

If anyone has information on this incident is asked to call the Bristol Police Department at 453-2533.

In other recent activity, Bristol police:

•  Conducted foot patrol along Main Street on Nov. 20, 21, 22 and 24, and on Mountain Street and in areas near Bristol Elementary School on Nov. 20 and 21.

•  Checked security at Mount Abraham Union High School on Nov. 21, 24, 25 and 26.

•  Conducted town-contracted traffic patrols on Nov. 22, 24, 25 and 26, covering north Route 116, Hardscrabble and Monkton roads, and other parts of Bristol. Police issued one warning and two tickets for speeding.

•  Completed fingerprint requests for two individuals for employment purposes on Nov. 21.

•  Helped monitor traffic along the West Street roadwork site on Nov. 20 from around 8:45 a.m. until enough workers arrived at the site to keep traffic moving more smoothly.

•  Conducted 30 minutes of directed traffic enforcement in the police district on Nov. 20, after receiving reports of traffic violations during certain times of the day.

•  Found money in the town park on Nov. 20. Anyone who lost money may contact police to recover it.

•  Released records in response to a citizen’s information request on Nov. 21.

•  Participated in a multiagency checkpoint and high visibility patrols coordinated by the Vermont State Police on Nov. 22.

•  Completed online first aid training on Nov. 23.

•  Participated with state police in a saturation-directed patrol as part of the Governor’s Highway Safety Program on Nov. 23. Two warnings were issued.

•  Helped Bristol Rescue Squad to load a patient at a local residence on Nov. 24.

•  Found a small amount of marijuana during a traffic stop on Nov. 24. Police conducted a consent search after noting an odor of marijuana. No criminal charges were filed.

•  Took part in an Addison County law enforcement sobriety checkpoint on Nov. 24.

•  Began an assault investigation on Nov. 24. According to police, the complainant was under the influence of intoxicants, so police will follow up to obtain more information.

•  Helped an out-of-state resident try to located a family member in Bristol on Nov. 25.

•  Began investigating a criminal action that occurred via the internet on Nov. 25.
