MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police investigated child abuse allegations involving a one-year-old child in the Court Street area on Jan. 25.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Helped the Addison County Sheriff’s Department with a prisoner at Porter Hospital on Jan. 22.

•  Responded to a report of a vehicle that had veered off Three Mile Bridge Road on Jan. 22.

•  Received truancy complaints involving two Middlebury Union Middle School (MUMS) students on Jan. 23.

•  Helped a Middlebury Union High School teacher who had received some unwanted communication on Jan. 23.

•  Ticketed multiple vehicles that were in violation of the town’s winter parking ban on College Street on Jan. 23.

•  Checked the inside of a Happy Valley Road home at around 12:44 a.m. on Jan. 23 at the request of the resident, who reported hearing some strange noises. Police found nothing unusual both inside and outside the home.

•  Continued their investigation on Jan. 24 into a possible shoplifting incident at Kinney Drug on Court Street.

•  Fielded a total of seven truancy complaints on Jan. 24 involving students who had recently missed “a number of days” of classes at MUMS

•  Helped MUMS staff with a student believed to have engaged in self-harm on Jan. 24.

•  Assisted state police with a traffic strop on North Pleasant Street on Jan. 25.

•  Helped the Addison County Sheriff’s Department with a traffic stop on Merchants Row on Jan. 25.

•  Continued their investigation on Jan. 26 into an alleged assault in a Washington Street parking lot.

•  Responded on Jan. 26 to a report of an injured deer in the driveway of a Quarry Road home.

•  Located a woman who had not shown up at her workplace as scheduled on Jan. 26.

•  Responded to a noise complaint in the Ossie Road neighborhood on Jan. 27.

•  Helped Vermont State Police process a driver who had been stopped for driving with a suspended license on Exchange Street on Jan. 27.

•  Served court diversion paperwork to a youth who had tried to use a fake identification card to buy alcohol at Hannaford Supermarket in The Centre shopping plaza on Jan. 27.

•  Checked on a man who had reportedly been walking into traffic after leaving McDonald’s Restaurant on Route 7 South on Jan. 27. Police said the man had been drinking, and a family member came to pick him up.

•  Ticketed some vehicles illegally parked on College Street on Jan. 27.

•  Investigated a noise complaint in the South Main Street area on Jan. 28.

•  Searched unsuccessfully for a drunken man allegedly spotted in the Court Street area on Jan. 28.

•  Served a no-trespass order on Jan. 28 on a man on behalf of Middlebury College.

•  Served a temporary restraining order on a local resident on Jan. 28 at the request of Rutland County court officials.

•  Conducted a death investigation at the Residence at Otter Creek retirement community on Jan. 28. Police said resident Betty Berens, 91, had collapsed in the dining hall and was pronounced deceased by Middlebury Regional EMS officials. Police attribute her death to natural causes.

•  Assisted Middlebury Regional EMS with a suicidal woman on Hepburn Road on Jan. 28.

•  Responded to a complaint about some barking dogs in the Ossie Road area on Jan. 29.
