VERGENNES — In an otherwise mostly quiet week between July 30 and Aug. 5, Vergennes police dealt with cases of alleged threats, citizens feeling suicidal, and unwanted nude pictures.

In those seven days, Vergennes police:

On July 30:

• Heard from a Short Street resident that her boyfriend had threatened her and was also possibly feeling suicidal. City police could not immediately find the man, but Vermont State Police later did and took him to Porter Hospital for counseling.

• Dealt with a minor fender-bender on the Northland Job Corps campus.

• Were told by a Main Street resident that she had twice received, from an unknown sender, letters containing pictures of naked women. Police are investigating.

On July 31:

• Referred a complaint about a sick and neglected cat on Walker Avenue to the city’s animal control officer.

• Held a forum on Walker Avenue in an attempt to clear the air and defuse ongoing disputes among several neighbors there; police said they believe the meeting helped.

• Looked into vandalism on King Street in which a vehicle’s tire was punctured.

On Aug. 1:

• Issued a no-trespass order to a Panton Road resident on behalf of Champlain Farms.

• Did a background check on behalf of the U.S. Marine Corps.

On Aug. 2:

• Determined a report of animal abuse on North Maple Street was unfounded.

• Checked the welfare of Short Street and Walker Avenue residents, both of whom were found to be OK.

• Helped VSP by responding to a report of a suicidal woman at an Addison home on Route 22A; VSP and city police determined she was OK.

On Aug. 4 heard from a city resident that he was concerned that a Middlebury resident who had allegedly threatened him with a knife in Middlebury the day before was now in Vergennes. City police checked with Middlebury police, who confirmed they were investigating the incident, and Vergennes police advised the man to obtain a no-stalking order.

On Aug. 5:

• Cited Gary Fisk, 55, of Bristol for driving with a suspended license, criminal offense, after a Green Street traffic stop. Police said Fisk’s license had been suspended for a driving-under-the-influence conviction.

• Helped VSP by calming a landlord-tenant dispute on Route 66 in Waltham.
