MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Tyler J. Scherer, 22, of New Haven for driving under the influence, following a stop for speeding on Court Street on Friday, Sept. 30. Police said they measured Scherer’s blood-alcohol content at 0.186 percent. The legal limit for driving is 0.08 percent.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

  Gave court diversion paperwork to a youth found to have been drinking alcohol on Middlebury College campus on Sept. 26.

  Served a no-trespass order on a local couple on Sept. 26.

  Were informed that someone had stolen an ATM card from a local woman and had been using it fraudulently in Rutland on Sept. 26.

  Received  a report that someone had stolen three potted mums from a Brookside Road resident’s porch on Sept. 26.

  Investigated two separate truancy reports near Middlebury Union High School grounds on Sept. 27.

  Assisted Vergennes police in investigating an attempted robbery at the Champlain Farms store in the Little City on Sept. 28. Police said a woman, identified as Yemalla Sprauve, tried to rob the store at knifepoint. Police said a store clerk was able to disarm and subdue Sprauve, who died at the scene from as-yet-unknown causes. A Middlebury officer packaged her loose belongings, which included a purple bandana, camo knit hat and a single shoe.

  Were informed that someone had keyed a vehicle and punctured its tire while it was parked on Main Street on Sept. 28.

  Assisted a local man who received a prank call on Sept. 28.

  Investigated a report of a vehicle being smashed in the Jackson Lane neighborhood on Sept. 29. Witnesses told police two men dressed in black smashed the windshield with a rock and slashed three tires.

  Responded to a report of a student not attending MUHS on Sept. 29.

  Were informed that a man had stolen a green Carhartt coat from Green Mountain Shoe and Apparel on Court Street on Sept. 29.

  Found some trash that had been dumped off Route 7 South on Sept. 29. Police found a name within the debris. The owner of the trash agreed to pick it up and dispose of it properly.

  Investigated an assault complaint at the Middlebury recreation park on Sept. 29.

  Were informed of the theft of coins from a Court Street apartment on Sept. 29.

  Ticketed an underage youth who had been consuming alcohol at an underage drinking party on North Pleasant Street on Sept. 30.

  Received, from a teacher, a knife that had been brought to MUHS by a student on Sept. 30.

  Responded to a trespassing complaint at a Duane Court residence on Sept. 30.

  Cautioned a local man who had allegedly harassed a girl in the Seymour Street area on Sept. 30.

  Served no-trespass notices on Sept. 30 to two non-students who were not wanted on Middlebury College campus.

  Cited Jeffrey Jones, 47, of Florence for driving under the influence, following a stop for speeding on Munson Road on Oct. 1. Police said they measured Jones’s blood-alcohol content at 0.110 percent.

  Investigated a family dispute at a Lindale Circle residence on Oct. 1.

  Cited Chester B. Scott, 57, of Bratenahl, Ohio, for DUI following a stop for speeding on Court Street Extension on Oct. 2. Police said they measured Scott’s blood-alcohol content at 0.106 percent.

  Assisted a local woman who had been receiving unwanted text messages on Oct. 2.

  Received a report that someone had stolen some prescription drugs, $50 in cash, a bottle of laundry detergent and two gallons of water from a shopper’s cart at Shaw’s Supermarket on Washington Street on Oct. 2.

  Assisted state police with a combative, drunken person at Porter Hospital on Oct. 2.

  Ticketed a man who was carrying an open container of alcohol on Weybridge Street on Oct. 2.
