GENE OLIVER

BRIDPORT — A graveside service for Gene A. Oliver, 46, who died Dec. 17, 2013, will be held in Bridport Central Cemetery on Saturday, Aug. 23, 2014, at 11 a.m. Rev. Patricia Jackman will officiate.

LOUISE BERTRAND

BENSON — Louise Ann Bertrand, 71, died unexpectedly, Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014, at her home in Benson.

Louise was born on Oct. 29, 1942, in Middlebury, the daughter of Lucien and Estelle (Gibeault) Charron. She spent her early years in Cornwall and attended elementary school there. She graduated from Middlebury High School in 1960.

TIMOTHY FRENCH

SPRINGFIELD, Mass./BRANDON, Vt. — Timothy Charles French, 57, of Springfield, Mass., and formerly of Brandon, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, in Springfield.

He was born May 16, 1957, in Middlebury, the son of Charles Freeman and Beverly Jean (Weinle) French. He received his education in Brandon schools and was a 1975 graduate of Otter Valley Union High School.

AMOS HIGBEE

STARKE, Fla. — Amos Fred Higbee, age 91, of Starke, Fla., passed away June 27, 2014. He was born July 26, 1922, in Ferrisburgh, Vt., to the late James Higbee.

When he was 18 years old, he joined the Army and was assigned to the 1st Division. In 1944, he was among the first group of men to land on the Beach at Omaha during the invasion of Normandy. He was a proud member of the 1st Division, nicknamed the “Big Red One.” During his military service, he held the rank of Sergeant and was awarded a Bronze Star for Heroism.

HILDA LIZOTTE

ROCHESTER — Hilda L. Lizotte, 75, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, at Fletcher Allen Medical Center in Burlington.

She was born Jan. 4, 1939, in Rochester, the daughter of Wilbur Johnson and Barbara Lawrence.

Hilda attended Rochester schools and graduated from Rochester High School in 1957. She continued her education graduating from Mary Fletcher School of Nursing in Colchester. She was married to Maurice Lizotte April 11, 1959, in Rochester. The Lizottes lived in North Carolina for a short time while Maurice was in the service.

LINDA O’CONNELL

BARRE — Linda Lee O’Connell, 65, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014, at Central Vermont Medical Center in Berlin, from a series of long term health issues.

She was born in Rutland on Aug. 14, 1948. She grew up in Forest Dale where she received her early education. She graduated from Otter Valley Union High School, class of 1967. She moved to Barre from Burlington three months ago. Her relatives say she loved cats, visiting with friends and family and socializing.

JUNA PERLEE

BRISTOL — Juna Maude Perlee, 94, died peacefully in the early hours of Aug. 6, 2014, with her devoted caregivers, Linda and Kirk Roscoe, at her side.

She was born July 4, 1920, to Annabelle and Carlton Bostwick of Hinesburg. She was the youngest of eight children.

She was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Henry “Pete” Perlee; her oldest son, James Henry Perlee; and her best friend and sister, Gussie Levarn.

MICHAEL RINGEY

CORNWALL — Michael Francis Ringey, age 60, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2014, at his home in Cornwall.

Michael was born Jan. 10, 1954, in Middlebury. He was the son of Francis and Christine (Pratt) Ringey. He grew up in Cornwall and graduated from Middlebury Union High School, class of 1972. He was FFA Treasurer during his senior year of high school. He was also a member of the first class to graduate from the Hannaford Career Center in Forestry Management.

ROBERT J. WALTERS, SR.

ORWELL — Robert J. Walters Sr. died at his home in Orwell on Aug. 12, 2014, after battling cancer. He was 84.

Bob was born on Dec. 18, 1929, in Paterson, N.J., the youngest of three children of Nick and Ruth (Tichler) Walters. He grew up in Midland Park, N.J., and graduated from Pompton Lakes High School in 1947. Bob worked as a carpenter throughout his life and served in the National Guard from 1948 to 1957. He enjoyed woodworking, woodcarving and being outdoors.

MICHAEL RINGEY

CORNWALL — A gathering “In Celebration of the Life of Michael Francis Ringey,” 60, who died Monday, Aug. 4, 2014, at his home in Cornwall, will be held on Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014, at 1 p.m. at the Middlebury Union High School gymnasium.

Following the ceremony the family will receive friends at a small reception. Afterwards, a good old-fashion Sunday afternoon softball game with family and friends will be played, in his memory. If you plan to attend, please bring a dish.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
