WEYBRIDGE — Grace Marie Weber, 61, of Weybridge passed away unexpectedly at her home on Dec. 14, 2016, with her beloved husband Steve by her side.

WILLIAM MCCARTNEY

MIDDLEBURY — William Martin McCartney, 56, passed away Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016 at the University of Vermont Medical after a brief illness with his family by his side.

He was born Aug. 14, 1960 in North Conway, N.H. to Sidney and Wilma (Martin) McCartney. He was a graduate of Vermont Academy class of 1978 and attended St. Michaels College. William worked in the hospitality field for many years.

VIOLA LESKINEN

LEICESTER — Viola Leskinen, age 69, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2016, at her home in Leicester.

Ms. Leskinen was born in Helsinki, Finland on Nov. 18, 1947. She was the daughter of Kaarlo Johan and Hilda (Viiru’n) Leskinen. She came to this country with her family in the early 1950s. She grew up in Bayside, Long Island, N.Y., where she received her early education. She became a naturalized U.S. citizen on July 22, 1957.

EDWARD GIPSON JR.

MIDDLEBURY — Edward “Pete” Gipson, Jr., age 82, passed away Saturday, Dec. 17, 2016, at Shard Villa in Salisbury.

Mr. Gipson was born in Middlebury on Dec. 3, 1934. He was the son of Edward Merrell and Marjorie (Tarble) Gipson. He grew up in Middlebury where he received his early education and graduated from Middlebury High School, class of 1953. He attended the University of Vermont, where he studied Civil Engineering. “Pete” entered the U.S. Army in July 1958 and was honorably discharged in July 1960.

GRACE WEBER

WEYBRIDGE — Grace Weber of Weybridge passed away unexpectedly on the morning of Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2016.

She is survived her husband, Steve, and six sons and daughters.

MARY SESSA

BRISTOL  — Mary Ellen Sessa was born on Oct. 1, 1943 to Vincent J. and M. Frances (Lane) Sessa.

She graduated from Burlington High School in 1961 and earned her B.S. in Elementary Education from the University of Vermont.

After college she joined the Peace Corps and went to Brazil. This was a very happy learning time for her where she met lots of wonderful people from both Brazil and the United States and formed several lifelong friendships.

ARNOLD LATTRELL

SALISBURY, Conn. — Arnold Frederic Lattrell went to be with the Lord on Dec. 10, 2016, at the age of 98. He passed away peacefully in his sleep at Noble Horizons Nursing Home in Salisbury, Conn., with his daughter Jean and his son Fred by his side.

Arnold was born on Nov. 11, 1918 in New Haven, Vt. He married Dolores Provencher in 1942. He then served honorably in the US Army from 1942 to 1945. He served in the European Theater in World War II.

NORMA DENU

SHELBURNE, Vt. — Mrs. Norma Marion Sutton Denu, 83, of Shelburne, Vt., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2016. Norma was the only child born to W. Harry and Marion Slockbower Sutton on July 21, 1933, in Paterson, N.J. Norma grew up in Glen Rock, N.J., where her father was a Methodist minister.

JODY COUSINO

BRISTOL — Jody Lee Cousino, born March 9, 1978 in Middlebury, passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 12, 2016 in his home in Bristol. Jody is survived by his mother Jane Coffin; daughter Grace Cousino; grandmothers Silvia Coffin and Veronica Jerome; friend Anna Alan; and daughter Marisa. Jody is also survived by several friends and family members. Jody graduated from Mount Abraham Union High School in 1996.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
