MAYNEAL M. WAYLAND

MIDDLEBURY — Mayneal M. Wayland, of the Residence at Otter Creek in Middlebury, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018. She was 96. Mrs. Wayland was born in Little Rock, Ark., on November 1, 1921, to Maurice Edwin McCoy and Vera Hoag McCoy. On May 30, 1943, she married Sloan R. Wayland in Washington, D.C. They moved to Rockland County in 1946.

Mrs. Wayland moved to Middlebury in 2009, a year after her husband’s death. They had three children. Mrs. Wayland earned her B.A. at Hendrix College in Arkansas and her M.S.W. from Columbia University in New York City.

ROBERT RUITER NORRIS

BRISTOL — Robert Ruiter Norris, 76, of Shoreham and Bristol, died peacefully surrounded by his children on Jan. 16, 2018, at the Helen Porter Nursing Home in Middlebury. Born May 25, 1941, in Newport, Robert was a dairy farmer at Norris Bros. Farms for 50 years with his brothers Terry and Gary, as well as a real estate agent in Shoreham.

LYLE “TINKER” MURRAY JR.

ADDISON — Lyle “Tinker” Murray Jr., age 78, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury.

Mr. Murray was born in Rutland on July 24, 1939. He was the son of Lyle and Valma (Wissell) Murray Sr. He grew up in Rutland where he received his early education and graduated from Rutland High School, class of 1957. Mr. Murray worked in General Construction for many years.

FRANCIS HIRAM FARNSWORTH

BRANDON — Francis Hiram Farnsworth, age 84, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, at his home in Brandon.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, at noon, at Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon. Call hours are from 11 a.m. until service time. The family will receive friends at Brandon American Legion following the ceremony.

In lieu of flowers gifts may be made in his memory to Rutland Area VNA & Hospice, 7 Albert Cree Drive, Rutland, VT 05701 or the Vermont Heart Association, 110 Main Street, Suite 203, Burlington, VT 05401.

BARBARA MITCHELL O’BRIEN

MIDDLEBURY — Barbara Mitchell O’Brien, 77, a longtime resident of Middlebury, Vt., and Boca Raton, Fla., died peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at Porter Medical Center following a yearlong residence in Vermont.

Born December 29, 1940, in Middlebury to Isadore and Kate Mitchell (Benedict), Barbara was educated locally, graduating MHS in 1958. She started her family soon after, marrying Michael Quesnel, together raising their three children in Cornwall, Vt.

WAYNE S. JONES SR.

WEST FERRISBURGH — Wayne S. Jones Sr., 62, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018 at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington.

He was born August 8, 1955 in Adams, Mass., the son Paul S. Jones and Lynn Beckwith.

He was a member of St. Peter’s Church in Vergennes and American Legion Post 14 in Vergennes. He served in the Navy from 1976 to 1996 and retired in Burlington as a Senior Chief in the Seabees. He owned the Otter Creek Bait Shop, and he also enjoyed hunting.

JOYCE A. CAMERON

SALISBURY — Joyce Ann (Gardner) Cameron, 73, while residing at Woodridge Nursing Home, left the hands and tore the hearts of her family and loved ones as she stepped into the loving arms of her savior, Jesus, on Jan. 3rd, 2018.

NORTH FERRRISBURGH, — Jeffrey Yandow, 65, of North Ferrisburgh, passed away unexpectedly on January 1, 2018. He was born on May 27, 1952, to the late Clovis and Esther Miller (Yandow Bristol).

ALBERT L. “AL” WATSON SR.

LEICESTER — Albert L. “Al” Watson Sr., age 85, died on Dec. 30, 2017, at Porter Medical Center, with his family by his side. He was the husband of Verna L. (Liska) Watson, to whom he was married for 54 years. Born in Eastham, Mass., on April 21, 1932, he was the son of the late Albert Watson and the late Althea (Bangs) Watson.

PEGGY J. TUTTLE

VERGENNES – Peggy Jean Tuttle (Kimberly Cameron Baker), 81, of Vergennes, passed away surrounded by her family on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury.  She was a beloved wife, mother, sister and friend. Peggy was born in Macon, Ga., on April 21, 1936, daughter of Lola Cameron Bull.

She married John Baker in 1957. She married Kenneth Tuttle in 1993.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
