YVONNE S. LABERGE

FERRISBURGH — Yvonne S. Laberge, 58, died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013, at home with her close family by her side. Yvonne bravely fought cancer for 23 years with a determination that will be remembered by all who knew her.

She was born May 23, 1955, in Middlebury, the daughter of Calvin Hawkins and Ernestine Cloe Hawkins. She grew up on the family farm where she developed a love of the outdoors, which would follow her the rest of her life.

KNIGHT WASHBURN

ADDISON — Knight Hopkins Washburn, 85, of Addison, died Aug. 27, 2013, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

He was born on June 2, 1928, to Walter B.C. and Helen Mathews Washburn in Providence, R.I. His childhood and youth were spent in Larchmont, N.Y., and on the shores of Lake Champlain.

RAYMOND LEHTOLA

HUBBARDTON — Raymond Lehtola, also known as Ray-Ray to his friends, passed away on September 4, 2013, to the sounds of his favorite music.

Raymond was born on December 8, 1961, and lived for many years in National City, Calif., with his grandparents Fred and Jean Batterley and his parents June and Tom Bohler. He moved to Vermont with his family in 2008. For the past four years, he lived with his caregivers Claire and Jerry Delancey on Echo Lake.

CHARLOTTE NAMY

MIDDLEBURY — Charlotte Namy, 81, passed peacefully in her home in Middlebury, Vermont, September 3, 2013, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Danville, Illinois, the daughter of Alvie and Viola Shoemaker.

Charlotte was a wonderful mother and grandmother who gave generously to her whole family. She was an excellent cook and accomplished seamstress. She spent many years in both Pennsylvania and North Carolina working as a bookkeeper for her husband’s consulting business. She will be dearly missed.

HAROLD PECK JR.

ORWELL — Harold E. Peck Jr., 81, of Orwell died Tuesday, Aug 27, 2013, at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.

He was born in Cheshire, Conn., to Harold E. Peck Sr. and Anita Hall.

He attended school in Cheshire, Conn., then moved to Orwell and started a dairy farm with registered Ayrshires and Jerseys. He was a member of 4-H and a supporter for years.

He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge for 48 years and a past master and he assisted in Lodge rituals.

NORMA BRIDGES

ALBANY, N.Y. — Norma Bridges, formerly of Bennington and a resident of Delmar, N.Y., for over 50 years died Aug. 13, 2013, at the Hospice Inn at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, N.Y.

BETSY ECKFELDT

ROXBURY — Betsy Eckfeldt died peacefully in her home in Roxbury on Aug. 13, 2013. She was 63 years old and had cancer.

She shared a home with her husband, Norm, that they began building 40 years ago, surrounded by their flower and vegetable gardens, trails through the woods where she walked, skied and snow shoed. Her family says she loved making fruit pies and jams, which she mostly gave away, and visiting her mom’s home in Maine where she swam and voraciously picked blueberries.

SHIRLEY HUGHES

MIDDLEBURY — Shirley E. Hughes, 85, formerly of Bristol, died on Aug. 22, 2013, at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury where she had been a resident for the past five years.

She was born in East Greenwich, R.I., the daughter of Jack and Adaline (Flowsby) Ericson.

After high school she went on to earn a degree from the Rhode Island School of Design, which she used throughouther life as an independent artist. Her family says she enjoyed her cats and spending time with her grandchildren and children.

JAMES MULLIN SR.

WILLISTON — James Mullin Sr., 87, of Williston, and formerly of Middlebury, died peacefully at his son’s home on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, surrounded by his family.

Born in New Rochelle, N.Y., he joined the U.S. Navy at age 17 and served at sea in World War II for four years.

MAURICE PAQUETTE

FERRISBURGH — Maurice J. Paquette, 82, died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

He was born Jan. 22, 1931, in New Haven, the son of Leonard and Alice Rheaume Paquette.

He was a member and past president of the Vergennes Eagles Club. Also, he was a member of Knights of Columbus in Middlebury and St. Peter’s Church in Vergennes.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
