VIRGINIA LAZARUS

RIPTON — An interment service for Virginia Lazarus, 60, of Ripton, who died Dec. 22, 2012, will be held on May 25, 2013, at noon at Galvin Cemetery, Ripton (2 miles east of the town, just before Middlebury College’s Bread Loaf campus). Friends and neighbors are invited to join to pay their respects. ◊

EDWARD RICARD

PORT HENRY, N.Y. — Edward J. Ricard, age 76, died Sunday, May 19, 2013, at Fletcher Allen Health Center in Burlington with his daughters at his side. He was born in Middletown Springs, Vt., on Aug. 31, 1936, the son of Manuel and Eleanor (McLaughlin) Ricard.

He attended Brandon High School in Brandon, Vt., and married Phyllis Mosher in 1955. Mr. Ricard was a logger and operated heavy equipment.

PATIENCE SISTERS

MIDDLEBURY — Patience Norton “Pat” Sisters, 89, a lifelong resident of the Vergennes area, died May 2, 2013, at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.

Born Nov. 18, 1923, in Vergennes, she was the daughter of Donald H. Norton and Gertrude Piper Flanders.

MILDRED TERRY

BRISTOL — A graveside service for Mildred Rachel Terry of Burlington, who died Feb. 19, 2013, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, in Greenwood Cemetery, Bristol.

KATHLEEN BROWN

BURLINGTON — Kathleen M. Brown, 84, of Burlington died Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Fletcher Allen Health Care.

She was born in Panton on July 1, 1928, the daughter of Warren E. and Bessie (Fish) White.

She married Robert Brown in January of 1943 and they raised four children, three of whom survive: Donald Brown of Burlington, Diane Brown of Panton and Barbara Bilodeau of Pensacola, Fla. She is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a large extended family.

WILLIAM R. CHRISTIAN JR.

CLARENDON SPRINGS — William Richard Christian Jr., 53, of Clarendon Springs died Thursday evening, May 16, 2013, on his 21st wedding anniversary with his wife by his side at the Rutland Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

He was born Dec. 20, 1959, in Middlebury, the son of William and Shirley (Johnson) Christian Sr.

He grew up in Orwell and attended Fair Haven Union High School.

He served in the U.S. Army until his honorable discharge.

ELEANOR CLINE

MIDDLEBURY — Eleanor F. Cline, 84, of Middlebury died May 9, 2013. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 23, at 11 a.m. at the Founders Room at the Lodge at Otter Creek, 350 Lodge Road, Middlebury.

RICHARD EATON

GRANVILLE —Richard Emery Eaton, 70, of Granville died Friday, May 10, 2013, at Gifford Medical Center. A graveside service will be held Friday, May 24, at 2 p.m. at the Hancock Cemetery.

RUTH RIVERS

BRISTOL — Ruth N. (Tatro) Rivers, 90, a longtime resident of Bristol and New Haven, died May 17, 2013, in Middlebury.

She was born in Bristol, daughter of William J. and Sarah E. (Luufkin) Tatro, on May 3, 1923.

She was employed for 10 years by Van Raalte Co. as a seamstress, then supervisor and in 1963 was assistant floor lady. She worked several years at Drake and Smith Co.

She was a den mother in the Cub Scouts in New Haven in the 1950s. She also taught Sunday school in New Haven and Lincoln for many years.

ELLA MAY LACEY

MIDDLEBURY — Graveside services for Ella May Lacey, who died March 12, 2013, in Freeport, Maine, will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2013, at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Middlebury, with the Rev. William R. Beaudin, pastor of St. Mary’s Church, officiating.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
