WILMA S. BROWN

BRISTOL — Wilma S. Brown, 96, passed away peacefully Dec. 31, 2013, at her home in Bristol with her family at her side. She was born in Huntington on May 21, 1917, the daughter of Gladwin A. and Hazel Bates Spaulding. She graduated from Richmond High School and Rutland Business College. She was married to Gordon H. Brown in the Baptist Church in Huntington on Aug. 3, 1940.

She was involved with her husband in the funeral business and ambulance service answering phone, doing the office work and assisting wherever she was needed.

HAROLD "PETE" GOSSELIN

JONESVILLE — Harold W. “Pete” Gosselin, 48, died due to an accident Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013.

He was born on April 20, 1965, to Cassius and Marion (Fuller) Gosselin of Shoreham. He attended Middlebury Union High School and was a veteran of the armed forces, serving in Operation Desert Storm.

He was employed at Richmond Home Supply and was a lifelong truck driver. His family says he was a passionate outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing in his beloved Bayliner Trophy and deer hunting in Shoreham and Middlebury. They describe him as a loving family man.

JOHN R. STAGG

SHOREHAM — John R. Stagg, 49, of Shoreham died Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, as the result of injuries sustained while working in Hartford, Conn.

He was born June 10, 1964, in Middlebury, the son of Rodney and Jean (Frasier) Stagg. He was a graduate of Middlebury High School, class of 1982.

ROBERT BAKER

BRANDON — Robert Lawrence Baker, 94, died Friday, Dec. 13, 2013, at his home in Brandon.

He was born in Rutland on July 6, 1919. He was the son of Loren and Carrie (Chaffee) Baker. He was a lifelong Brandon resident.

ROBERT F. BOISE

MIDDLEBURY — Robert F. Boise, 75, died early Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, at the VA Hospital in White River Junction.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, Dec. 20, 2013, at 1 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with the Rev. William Beaudin as celebrant.

Burial will be at a later date in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s School at 86 Shannon St. Middlebury, VT 05753.

STANLEY G. DENNEY

VERGENNES — Stanley G. Denney, 88, of Vergennes died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013, at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.

He was born Jan. 8, 1925, in Stamford, Conn., the son of Charles and Constance (Wallon) Denney.

He was married to Aline Mayer, who predeceased him in August 2005.

He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Navy on the sub Chaser SC1323 as a sonar man in the Pacific and was at the invasion of Okinawa. He also served on the aircraft carrier USS Bataan CVL-29 during the Korean Conflict.

DONALD A. GEBO SR.

BRISTOL — Donald A. Gebo Sr., 75, of Bristol and Lake Placid, Fla., died on Dec. 2, 2013. Born on Aug. 1, 1938, in Monkton, he was the son of the late Andrew Gebo and Margaret Provoncha Gebo.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, family barbeques, and his little dog Emily and long rides in the country, especially around the islands. He and his wife, Nancy, explored much of New England and enjoyed touring Florida during their winters, which led them to move to Lake Placid in 2008.

ELEANOR “NELLIE” MORISON

CORNWALL — Eleanor Truax “Nellie” Morison, 75, died at home in Cornwall Dec. 15 after a long battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her two sons, her brother, and two sisters-in-law.

CLAIRE DUMAS SCRIBNER

BRISTOL — Claire Dumas Scribner passed away on December 12, 2013 after a brief illness at Fletcher Allen Health Care.

Claire was born on February 12, 1947, to Max and Mary (Lana) Dumas of Bristol, VT. She attended Bristol High School and was a lifelong member of the St. Ambrose Catholic Community. She taught religious education classes and served on parish committees for decades. Claire worked as a Lister and assistant to the Town Clerk for several years.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
