Vivian Virginia Verch Werner

MIDDLEBURY — Vivian Virginia Verch Werner died on April 4. She was born in Albany, N.Y., daughter of the late Eva Pettit Verch and the late Theodore Verch. Mrs. Werner was a graduate of Albany Academy for Girls, Albany, N.Y. and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wheelock College in Boston, Mass.

In 1943, Mrs. Werner married the late Dr. Arthur Werner, a practicing dentist in New York City and retired Captain in the Dental Corps of the U S. Naval Reserve.

Doris Doolittle-Quattrocci

MIDDLEBURY — Doris Doolittle-Quattrocci, born September 5, 1924, to Alfred and Ora Robidoux, died March 31, at 92 years of age.

She was predeceased by husbands Mort Doolittle and John Quattrocci, son Morton Doolittle, and brothers Albert Robidoux and Joseph Robidoux. Doris leaves behind her sister Rita and husband Francis Brown of Bristol, Brother Alfred Robidoux of Ct. Daughters Darlene and husband Donald Okenquist of Middlefield, Ct., Claudia and husband John Cassata of Meriden, Ct., and Gail Scott of Mont., and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Joseph J. Martel

VERGENNES —Joseph J. Martel, 73, died Friday, March 31, at Porter Medical Center after a lengthy illness.  He was born May 19, 1943 in Milford, N.H., the son of Kenneth and Mabel (Burgson) Martel. Joseph was a member of the Shoreham Congregation Church and served as a Deacon.

WINONA ORVIS YASKO

NEWPORT — Winona Orvis Yasko died March 23, 2017, at the Bel-Aire Center in Newport, Vermont, at the age of 93.

She was predeceased by her parents, older sister Lovina Orvis Baslow, and husband, Michael A. Yasko, in 2001, whom she married on October 10, 1942, in Bristol, VT. Survivors are daughters Michele Young and her life partner Karl L. Mol of Huntington, WV, Carolyn Marie Schwebel and her spouse John of Leonardo, NJ, and younger sister Patricia Orvis of Brooklyn, NY.

WILLIAM TRASK

WEST BOYLSTON, Ma. — William F. Trask, aka Tuna, a fixture at Worcester Polytechnic Institute for nearly 60 years, passed away at his son’s home in Northboro on Saturday, March 25, 2017 after a brief illness. He was 87. Born in Rochester, Vt. on Aug. 31, 1929, he was the youngest son of John C. Trask and Nellie Foley Trask.

JOY TATRO

MONKTON — Joy (Barrows) Tatro died peacefully on March 23, 2017 at Porter Nursing Home.

Her husband, Robert Olan Tatro, predeceased her. They worked together on his family’s farm. Joy loved playing Bingo.

She leaves behind two daughters; Kathy Tatro McQuinn (Bruce) of Shoreham, Wanda Tatro(Jason) of Saint Johnsbury; three granddaughters; Eryn McQuinn Ontl (Sven) of Germany, Kara McQuinn of Florida, Michelemy Burton of Marshfield.

CLAUDE SPAULDING - Celebration of Life

BRISTOL — Friends, family, former colleagues and students are warmly invited to attend a Celebration of Life in honor of Claude Spaulding on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 1 p.m. Spaulding passed away at age 68 on Nov. 2, 2016.

The May 13 gathering will take place at the family home at 49 Bristol Cliffs Drive in Bristol.

MARY I. PLOUFFE

BRIDPORT — Mary I. Plouffe 82, died Monday March 27, at Helen Porter Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born May 25, 1934 in Benson, the daughter of Bernard and Velna (Doane) Burke.

Mary worked as a cook/site manager for the Bridport Senior Center through the Champlain Valley Area on Aging.

RICHARD NIEBUHR

MIDDLEBURY — Professor Richard R. Niebuhr, a Harvard theologian who trained generations of young men and women for the classroom and the clergy, passed away February 26 in Middlebury, Vt., where he had lived the last 11 years. He was 90 years old.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
