Charles Glidden Kennett

ADDISON — Charles Glidden Kennett, 88, died on Nov. 28, 2011, at the home of his daughter and son-in-law following a long period of declining health.

He was born in Framingham, Mass., on Nov. 22, 1923, the son of Ervil Clayton and Lina Isabelle (Kingsbury) Kennett.

Lucille B. Atwood James

CLAREMONT, N.H. — Lucille B. Atwood James, 97, died on Nov. 28, 2011, at Elmwood Center in Claremont, N.H., surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born on March 21, 1914, in West Salisbury, Vt., the daughter of Clifford Atwood and Reba Woods. She lived most of her life in Shoreham, Vt.

Her love was her family, gardening, cooking and hospitality. She also enjoyed writing and receiving letters from friends and family in the USA and foreign countries.

Jeffrey N. Drinkwine

SALISBURY — Jeffrey N. Drinkwine, born April 24, 1945, died quick and on his own terms Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011.

He was preceded by his parents, Harvey and Helen.

He is survived by his loving wife, Liza; three sons, Matt, Dan and Jed; granddaughter Audrey; daughter-in-law Lyndell; and cousin Pat Scarborough.

Robert L. Burroughs

BRAINTREE — Robert L. Burroughs, 74, of Braintree, died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.

He was born Aug. 7, 1937, in Ferrisburgh, the son of Phelps and Editha (Harris) Burroughs. Robert graduated from Vergennes High School, and from Castleton Teachers College (now Castleton State). He was married to Sylvia Alcorn in Gaysville on July 25, 1964. He lived in Ferrisburgh, Ballston Spa, N.Y., Guilderland, N.Y., and Scotia, N.Y., before moving to Braintree.

Donna Mary French Noble

NEW HAVEN — Donna Mary French Noble, 75, of New Haven passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011, at home, surrounded by her loving family, following a long courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.

She was born Sept. 29, 1936, in Bristol, VT, daughter of Clarence and Mildred (Varney) French. Donna graduated from Bristol High School in 1954.

Ilene S. Little

MIDDLEBURY — Ilene S. Little, 96, died November 23, 2011, at Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, where she left behind numerous friends.

She was born in Bristol on Dec. 6, 1914. She was a Christian woman who was a member of Valley Baptist Bible Church in East Middlebury.

George L. Tatro

BURLINGTON — George L. Tatro, son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, died Nov. 20, 2011, after a short, bravely fought battle with lung cancer.

George, a Burlington resident, was born to George and Etta (Farr) Tatro on April 4, 1935, in Bristol, where he went to school and later joined the U. S. Army to serve in the Korean Conflict.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Shirley O’Sullivan Nolan Tatro, and his children, Shawn Nolan and Kathleen Paul and her spouse, David.

Helen H. Reiff

MIDDLEBURY — Helen H. Reiff, only child of Helen Adelaide Lee and Howell F. Hayslette, died on Nov. 20 at the Lodge at Otter Creek, Middlebury, Vermont. She was born in Chicago on February 8, 1925, and attended Chicago schools, including Loyola University’s Chicago campus, where she studied Greek, and had also attended Stanford University, where she studied Anglo Saxon. She was a graduate of Oberlin College (Ohio) and of the Vermont Law School (J.D.) and was admitted to the Vermont Bar in 1991. She had lived in Middlebury since 1958.

Gloria Merrill Field Henderson

ORLANDO, Fla. — Gloria Merrill Field Henderson, 82, of Orlando died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, at her home in Orlando.

Born to George Sollase Merrill and Loretta Mae Merrill (Danyow), April 15, 1929, in Burlington, Vt., she moved to Orlando from Vergennes, Vt., in 1948.

She is survived by her daughter Terry Field Fee, of Altoona, son Jim Field of Gordon, Ga., daughter Linda Richardson of Miami, six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her granddaughter Rachel Field in 1992.

Alvin Lewis Burridge Jr.

RIPTON — Alvin Lewis Burridge Jr., noted international business executive and U.S. Marine pilot, died Nov. 16, 2011, in Haverhill, Mass. He was 91. Born June 18, 1920, in Crystal Falls, Mich., he was the son of Alvin Lewis Burridge and Alberta Erikson, and the brother of Charles Kingsley Burridge of Kent, Wash., May Belle Rexford of Cadillac, Mich., and the late George Nau Burridge of Green Bay, Wisc. After growing up in Cadillac, Mich., and beginning his college career, Lewis enlisted in the U.S. Marine Air Corps after Dec. 7, 1941.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
