ORWELL — Marion Hazel Christian, 76, of Orwell died Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at Mountain View Center in Rutland.

June Dwyer

LEICESTER — June Ruth Dwyer, 67, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at her home in Leicester after a long battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

The graveside committal service and burial will take place on Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at noon in the family lot at Forest Dale Cemetery. Family and friends will share in the service. There are no public calling hours.

James LaDuke

SUDBURY — James Alfred LaDuke, 62, died Monday, Nov. 16, 2009, at the home where he was born in Sudbury.

The graveside committal service and burial took place on Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at 10 a.m. at Mountain View Cemetery in Orwell. The Rev. Richard Esty, pastor of the Orwell Congregational Church, officiated.

He was born March 19, 1947. He was the son of Kenneth and Marion (Euber) LaDuke.

Joan Landon

MIDDLEBURY — Joan (Johnson) Landon, 80, of Middlebury died at her home at The Lodge at Otter Creek, Tuesday, Nov. 17. She was surrounded by family and friends.

A memorial gathering will take place at The Lodge at Otter Creek on Saturday, Dec. 19, at 2:30 p.m.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Vermont Symphony or another good cause.

She was born in Minneapolis, Minn., on Aug. 4, 1929, the oldest daughter of Earle and Grace (Conroy) Johnson.

Madeline Wendel

BRISTOL — Madeline (Hurlburt) Wendel, 83, of Bristol died at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center Thursday, Nov. 19, with her family by her side after a brief illness.

Calling hours were held at the Brown-McClay funeral home in Bristol on Sunday, Nov. 22, from 2 to 4 p.m. There was an Eastern Star service during calling hours. The funeral service was on Monday, Nov. 23, at 11 a.m. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, or to Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

Edwin Paxson

ORWELL — Dr. Edwin Mattson Paxson, 83, of Orwell died peacefully on Nov. 11, 2009, with his loving wife Elizabeth at his side at the Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.

A celebration of Dr. Paxson’s life will be held on April 19, 2010, in Vermont at a location to be announced. In lieu of flowers, the family request that contributions may be sent to Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury, the Alzheimer’s Association of Vermont and the R.J. McKay Green & Gold Professorship Fund, c/o University of Vermont Department of Pediatrics.

Robert Kirchhoff

LINCOLN — Robert Alfred “Bob” Kirchhoff was born Sept. 11, 1937, in Staten Island, N.Y., son of Alfred and Carol Kirchhoff. Bob passed away early Saturday, Nov. 14, peacefully at his home with his family.

A small ceremony will be held at his home in Lincoln, where his body has been laid to rest. Close friends and family are invited to remember Bob on Saturday the 21st between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Contact the family with any questions.

Any donations and contributions can be made in his name to Addison County Home Health and Hospice.

Elizabeth Rufiange "Betty" Jones

PROCTOR — Elizabeth Rufiange “Betty” Jones, 77, died peacefully at home on Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, with her children by her side.

The memorial service “In Celebration of her Life” will be held on Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at 3 p.m. at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon. The Rev. Albert “Skip” Baltz, pastor of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, will officiate. The graveside committal service and burial will follow in the family lot at Pine Hill Cemetery.

FERRISBURGH — Mary M. Atkins, a Ferrisburgh resident, passed away peacefully at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury, Nov. 16, 2009.

A graveside service will be at the Maplewood Cemetery in Huntington at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20.

Dale Bushey

STARKSBORO — Dale K. Bushey, 68, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at home in Starksboro with his family, after a prolonged illness.

At Dale’s request, there will be no memorial service.

If desired, contributions in his memory may be made to the Addison County Humane Society, 236 Boardman St., Middlebury, VT. 05753.

He was born at the Spade Farm in Ferrisburgh on April 2, 1941, the son of Ansel O. and Doris (Latterell) Bushey.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
