Lovina Beatrice Baslow

BRISTOL — Lovina Beatrice Baslow, 89, died peacefully at her home in Bristol on Oct. 28, 2011.

It was her request that she remain at home with her husband and her two little dogs during her last days, and this request was carried out.

She was born Nov. 14, 1921, in South Starksboro to Agnes and Ralph Orvis.

Betty Barbarise

BRANDON — Elizabeth (Bellerjeau) “Betty” Barbarise, 95, of Brandon died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Plainfield, N.J., on Feb. 11, 1916. She was the daughter of William and Anna (Randall) Bellerjeau.

Dr. Robert (Bob) M. Book, Jr.

PALM HARBOR, Fla. — Former Vermont and Grand Cayman resident, Dr. Robert (Bob) M. Book, Jr., 83, passed away on Oct. 21, 2011, in Palm Harbor, Fla., after a long battle with leukemia. He was born on April 6, 1928, to Robert Murray Book Sr., and Viola (Corbett) Book.

Laura Catherine Beck

BRANDON — Laura Catherine Beck, 89, died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2011, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Brandon on April 21, 1922. She was the daughter of Frank and Sarah (Trombley) LaDuke. She received her early education in local Brandon schools and graduated from Brandon High School, class of 1936.

Vicky R. Stevens

BRANDON — Vicky R. Stevens, 56, died Sunday evening, Oct. 23, 2011, at Vermont Respite House, Williston.

Born April 21, 1955, in Lincoln, Neb., she was the daughter of the late John J. Leupp and Esther M. (Crapser) Leupp.

Vicky attended Waterloo High School, Waterloo, N.Y. She became a resident of Brandon in 1982, moving here from Chittenango, N.Y. She was the owner of Vicky Stevens Real Estate and had worked at various shops including Shapiro’s and Pinewood Garden Center.

Clifford K. Piper Sr.

MIDDLEBURY — Clifford K. Piper Sr., 76, of The Meadows in Middlebury, died Monday, Oct. 24, 2011, at his home after a period of failing health.

He was born on Sept. 21, 1935, in East Middlebury, the son of Chester and Doris Irene (Billings) Piper. He received his early education in East Middlebury schools and spent most of his life in East Middlebury before moving to The Meadows in Middlebury.

He married Irene R. Ovitt on June 6, 1959.

Chiquita Mason

YORK, Pa. — Chiquita Mason, 52, died Sundaya, Oct. 23, 2011, at her home in York.

She was born on Jan. 22, 1959, in Middlebury, Vt., daughter of Ralph G. Aiken and Charlotte M. Thede. She grew up in Bristol, Vt., and graduated from Mount Abraham Union High School.

Wesley Campbell Larrabee

RUTLAND — Wesley Campbell Larrabee, 88, died peacefully at his home at the Gables in Rutland Oct. 22, 2011.

He was born Sept. 7, 1923, in Shoreham to Rieta (Campbell) and Ernest W. Larrabee. He graduated from Shoreham High School in 1942 and attended Massachusetts State College until 1943, when he returned home to work on the family farm during the war.

Norman Asa Chatfield

HUBBARDTON — Norman Asa Chatfield, 71, of Hubbardton died Oct. 25, 2011, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Brandon on Oct. 16, 1940. He was the son of Asa Benjamin and Margaret Eva (Swinington) Chatfield. He grew up in Leicester, where he received his early education. He graduated from Brandon High School, class of 1961.

Raymond Baker

BRANDONRaymond Ransom Baker, 71, died Saturday morning, Oct. 22, 2011, at his home in Brandon.

He was born in Poultney on Dec. 18, 1939. He was the son of Ransom David and Marguerite Mae Johnson Baker. He grew up in the Poultney area, attending schools there while working in farming. He also worked for the Vermont Marble Company during his early adult years.

On April 5, 1968, he married Marilyn Woodlock in Graniteville, N.Y.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
