JOANNE COUSINEAU

NEW HAVEN — Joanne Cousineau, 63, of New Haven, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2017. She was born in Middlebury, the daughter of Romeo and Colombe (Gevry) Cousineau.

Joanne spent a great deal of her life as a childcare provider and was fondly thought of as a “mother” figure to so many who knew her. She was a steadfast supporter of her family and friends, an avid volunteer and a crafter and teacher at CREATE Art and Craft Studio.

SHEILA BENOIT

SHELBURNE — Sheila Jean (Emerson) Benoit, 51, formerly of Vergennes, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at her home in Shelburne.

She was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Norma Jean (Moffit) Emerson of Barre, born on October 26, 1965. She is survived by her partner Craig Thompson, daughters Maria Benoit of Vergennes and Kristina Benoit of North Ferrisburgh, and brothers Paul and Bruce Emerson of Vergennes.

A graveside memorial service will be held at the North Ferrisburgh Cemetery on Friday, May 5 at 11 a.m.

WALTER NOEL SEARS

CORNWALL — Walter Noel Sears, age 86, died Thursday, April 27, 2017, at Porter Hospital in Middlebury.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

DIANA PARKS MEMORIAL SERVICE

VERGENNES — There will be a memorial service for Dianna Parks, who died on January 14, 2017, at the age of 78, on Saturday, April 29, at 1 p.m. at the Vergennes Congregational Church on Water St. Interment will be at Sunset View Cemetery after the service.

Margaret A. Cooke Graveside Services

BRIDPORT — Graveside services for Margaret A. Cooke, 88, who died December 22, 2016 will be held onWednesday May 3, 2017 at 11 A.M.in Bridport Central Cemetery.

The Rev. Andy Nagy-Benson will officiate.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home.

BEVERLEY B. MACLAUGHLAN

BRIDPORT — Beverley B. MacLachlan, 70, formerly of Perkinsville, died Sunday morning April 23, 2017 at the home of her son after a long illness.

She was born November 15, 1946, in Burlington, the daughter of Nelson G. and Marion M. (Chatfield) Briggs.

Beverley married Robert Douglas MacLachlan Sr. on April 15, 1965 in Manchester, Conn.

BRIAN EMMETT KERR

RIPTON — Brian Emmett Kerr, age 40, died Thursday, April 20, 2017, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in Salisbury.

Mr. Kerr was born in Middlebury on August 21, 1976. He was the son of Thomas and Donna (Cooley) Kerr. He grew up in Goshen and received his early education in Brandon schools, and attended Otter Valley Union High School.

WALTER B. KEELER

BRANDON — Walter B. Keeler, 90, died April 24, 2017, in Rutland.

He was born in Hyde Park, Vt., on July 11, 1926, the son of Harold and Ella Keeler. He grew up and lived in Massachusetts and returned to Vermont in 1987, residing in Middlebury and Brandon.

He is survived by wife Jacqueline; son Dwight D. Keeler and his wife Deborah of Rutland; daughter Jo Ann E. Keeler of Brandon; 2 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. He will be buried at Pleasant View Cemetery in Morrisville.

Arrangements are by Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home.

ROBERT CARR

PORT HENRY, N.Y. — Robert Carr, 60, of Port Henry, N.Y., known as “Mooch” to his friends, passed away on April 19, 2017.

Robert was born in Port Henry, N.Y., on December 19, 1956 to the late John and Florence (Neaves) Carr. He was raised in Port Henry and graduated from Moriah Junior-Senior High School. He attended Herkimer County Community College.  He was a former member of the Port Henry Volunteer Fire Department.

PHILIP BULEY

MIDDLEBURY — Philip Buley, 79, passed away on April 1, 2017 in Middlebury following a long illness.

Phil was born in Burlington, Vt., the only child of Elmer and Florence (Frechette) Buley. He attended schools in Newport, Vt. He received a B.A. in Liberal Arts from Middlebury College, a Masters of Education specializing in curriculum, and a Certificate of Advanced (Graduate) Study in Educational Leadership from the University of Vermont.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
