EDWARD 'PETE' SAMPSON

SALISBURY — The graveside service for Edward (Pete) Sampson will be on Saturday, July 25, at 11 a.m. at the Holman Cemetery on Route 7 in Salisbury, Vt.

Omitted from the obituary that appeared in last week’s Independent were half-siblings Robert Michael Sampson of Reston, Virginia, and Diane Vieweg of Winchendon, Mass.

EDNA WELLER

BRANDON— Edna Mae Weller, 74, died Saturday, July 18, 2015, at Rutland Health Care Center.

She was born in Ripton on April 26, 1941. She married Erwin Weller in 1959 in Ripton. He predeceased her in February 2015.

Surviving are her daughter, Karlene Marie Johnson of Rutland; two granddaughters and eight great-grandchildren.

The funeral service was held on Wednesday, July 22, at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.The graveside committal service and burial followed in Pine Hill Cemetery.

RIPTON — Malcolm Newton Billings (Mack), 69, died at peace in Middlebury on July 16, 2015. Born in Middlebury, VT, on August 31, 1945, he was the third son of Malcolm Winter Billings and Hilda P. Barnard Billings of Ripton.

CAPE CORAL, Fla./VERGENNES, Vt. — A graveside service for Esther Bristol Miller, who died Feb. 23, 2015, in Cape Coral, Fla., will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 1, at Prospect Cemetery in Vergennes, Vt.

JOAN DOWLING

SALISBURY — Joan M. (Allman) Dowling, 76, of Salisbury, formerly of Waterbury and Southington, Conn., died Saturday, July 11, at Helen Porter Healthcare in Middlebury. She was the wife of the late Bernard “Clem” Dowling, who died in 2007.

She was born in Waterbury, Conn., on Jan. 9, 1939. She was a former technical inspector at Sikorsky Aircraft of Connecticut.

She is survived by four children, a sister, several nieces and nephews, eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

GEORGE GOVE JR.

BRANDON — George Mark Gove Jr., 79, died Saturday, July 11, 2015, at his home in Brandon.

He was born in Brandon on May 16, 1936, the son of George Mark and Helen (Morse) Gove Sr.

The funeral service was held on Wednesday, July 15, 2015. The graveside committal service and burial followed in the family lot at Pine Hill Cemetery.

FRANCIS LAFERRIERE

NEW HAVEN — Francis John Laferriere, 68, of New Haven died Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at Birchwood Terrace Nursing Home in Burlington.

He was born July 2, 1946, in Middlebury, the son Frank and Elizabeth Laferriere.

His family says he enjoyed visiting with friends and golf. He worked for many local farms.

He is survived by his brother Richard Laferriere.

He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers and a sister.

EDWARD 'PETE' SAMPSON

HOMESTEAD, Fla./CORNWALL, Vt. — Edward P. “Pete” Sampson died June 30 in Florida of COPD.

He was born May 28, 1938, in Burlington, Vt., to James C. and Hilda L. (Burke) Sampson.

He is survived by son Edward and wife Jamie of Six Mile, S.C.; two grandchildren, Elizabeth and James Sampson; two sisters, Nancy Spaar and Peggy Sorrell of Allentown, Pa.; a half-sister, Claire Stevens (Ronald) of Cornwall, Vt., and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, James Sampson Jr.; and a sister, Amy Bratz.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
