DORIS ANDREWS

VERGENNES — Doris Andrews, 91, died comfortably with friends at her side on Wednesday, July 9, 2014. Doris was born on May 3, 1923, in New Jersey. She was the only child of Minnie (Goetz) and Albert Casan.

DEAN DESJADON

SHOREHAM — Dean S. Desjadon, 63, died early Thursday morning, July 10, 2014, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington after a brief illness.

Born April 24, 1951, in Middlebury, he was the son of the late Warren and Deanetta (Gallison) Desjadon. He was raised in Orwell and was a graduate of Fair Haven Union High School, class of 1969.

Dean married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Carriere, June 26, 1971, at Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Fair Haven.

LORAINE HOAG

MONKTON — Loraine Ruth Hoag died peacefully on Friday, July 4, at her daughter’s home in Monkton, where she had resided for the past five years.

Born at home on Oct. 20, 1929, in Bennington, Vt., the daughter of Bernie and Gladys (Martin) Gates, she received her education first in the Bennington graded and high schools and later, after attaining her GED, taking classes at St. Joseph’s College, also in Bennington.

SANIBEL ISLAND, Fla./CORNWALL, Vt. — Gallant, loyal, kind to all, Kevin Ianni, MD, succumbed to multiple myeloma with his wife of 30 years by his side on July 3, 2014. He fought like a Spartan with unsurpassed courage and remarkable strength.

RIPTON/MIDDLEBURY — A Service in Celebration of the life of The Rev. Gerald M. Rowe, who died at age 93 at home in Ripton on June 18, 2014, will be held at the Ilsley Memorial Baptist Church (97 South Pleasant St., Middlebury) on Saturday, July 19, at 1 p.m. The celebration will be followed by a luncheon reception in the Fellowship Hall. 

DORILLA SHEPARD

BRANDON — Dorilla Marie Shepard, 100, died Monday, July 7, 2014, at The Pines at Rutland.

She was born in East Man, Quebec, Canada. She was the daughter of Joseph and Melina (Pocquette) Coulombe. She moved to St. Albans in 1916, where she received her early education.

NIANTIC, Conn. — Judith Vaill-Lombardo of Niantic, Conn., formerly of New Haven, Vt., died peacefully on July 5 surrounded by her devoted husband, Jim Lombardo, and loving daughters, Merissa and Mia.

VERGENNES — Albert F. Abair, 92, of Vergennes, died peacefully on Saturday, June 21, 2014, in Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

He was born in Middlebury to Frank and Mary Abair. Albert  grew up as a tenant farmer with his family, working a small dairy farm in Panton.

BENSON — Phyllis Jean Bishop, 78, of Benson died July 1, 2014, at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury following a long illness.

She was born Aug. 24, 1935, in Rutland, the daughter of Donald Chapman and Naomi Garland (Brown) Bishop.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
