PAUL T. LAROCCA

MIDDLEBURY — Paul T. LaRocca, age 71, passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2017, in Middlebury, Vt., with his family around him. He was born in Weehawken, N.J., on March 15, 1946, and was the son of Rudolph and Felicia (Frangillo) LaRocca.

Paul earned his Ph.D. in Toxicology from the University of Rhode Island. He married his wife, Mary Anne, on April 11, 1970, and together, they founded and were co-presidents of MaryPaul Laboratories. Paul was an avid fisherman, a soccer fan, and a family man. His bad jokes and generosity will be missed by many.

CYNTHIA J. BURNETT

MIDDLEBURY — Cynthia J. Burnett, 60, of Middlebury, died peacefully on Thursday May 4,2017 at Porter Medical Center.

She was born December 29, 1956 in Newport, the daughter of Donald and Ilene (St. George ) Little.

Cindy was a volunteer driver at ACTR. She enjoyed crocheting, yard sales and was a wonderful cook.

She leaves behind her husband Richard, son Chad, a special granddaughter Samantha, along with many other grandchildren and great grandchildren, also by her sister Robin Little-Lebeau and by her brother Donald E. Little.

VERGENNES, Vt — Wendy G. Mitchell, 53, passed away very peacefully in her sleep on December 4, 2016, while at Good Shepard Hospice in Sebring, Florida after a courageous battle with cancer.

PHILIP EDWARD LAWRENCE

MANCHESTER, Ga. — Phillip Edward Lawrence, 77, of Manchester, Ga., passed away Thursday, April 27, 2017 at home with family and friends by his side.

Mr. Lawrence was born August 7, 1939, in Vergennes, Vt. the son of Philip Lewis Lawrence and Mary Elizabeth Bunch Lawrence. He joined the U. S. Army in 1959 and was assigned to the 9th Infantry Combat Support Company at Fort Benning, where he met his wife Sylvia June. In 1961, he was assigned to the Yukon Command in Fairbanks, Alaska, where his daughter Lori Ann was born.

JOANNE COUSINEAU

NEW HAVEN — Joanne Cousineau, 63, of New Haven, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2017. She was born in Middlebury, the daughter of Romeo and Colombe (Gevry) Cousineau.

Joanne spent a great deal of her life as a childcare provider and was fondly thought of as a “mother” figure to so many who knew her. She was a steadfast supporter of her family and friends, an avid volunteer and a crafter and teacher at CREATE Art and Craft Studio.

SHEILA BENOIT

SHELBURNE — Sheila Jean (Emerson) Benoit, 51, formerly of Vergennes, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at her home in Shelburne.

She was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Norma Jean (Moffit) Emerson of Barre, born on October 26, 1965. She is survived by her partner Craig Thompson, daughters Maria Benoit of Vergennes and Kristina Benoit of North Ferrisburgh, and brothers Paul and Bruce Emerson of Vergennes.

A graveside memorial service will be held at the North Ferrisburgh Cemetery on Friday, May 5 at 11 a.m.

WALTER NOEL SEARS

CORNWALL — Walter Noel Sears, age 86, died Thursday, April 27, 2017, at Porter Hospital in Middlebury.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
